Summary

They took everything. Even her name. In the shadow empire of the Hazi, childhood is a myth. Children are broken down, trained for roles they’ll never escape, and taught loyalty only to the system that shaped them. She remembers nothing of the world before the training, the torture, the indoctrination. Only flickers of a life no one speaks of—and questions she’s been conditioned never to ask. Wake when the lights come on. Survive what they call a mission. Endure what they call justice. A brutal beginning to one girl’s story - one that was never meant to be told.

Prologue

Light flooded into the grand hallway as the pitter-patter of tiny footsteps echoed off the walls, and the laughter of a child who had only known love and kindness rang down the corridor.

She squealed with delight as someone rushed to catch her, only steps behind.

But the child had other plans. Darting across the sunlit foyer, she raced toward the open doors. As she reached them, the scent of must and lingering cigar smoke tickled her nose.

Two heartbeats, neither steady, pulled at her attention.

She looked up.
