Summary

Dans la Côte d’Ivoire des années 1960, Bakary Fofana quitte le village de Ferkessédougou, laissant derrière lui une lettre pour sa compagne Sandrine, alors enceinte de jumeaux. Des années plus tard, ses fils, Abdoul et Abdouldramane, décident de partir à sa recherche à Abidjan. Guidés par cette lettre, ils découvrent un passé fait de silence, de trahisons et d’amour. Entre révélations bouleversantes et rencontres marquantes, les deux frères vont remonter le fil d’une vie pour retrouver un père, et surtout, une vérité.

Chapter 1 la dernière lettre

Le soleil se couchait lentement sur la petite ville de Ferkessédougou. Les oiseaux chantaient encore, comme pour saluer la fin de la journée. Bakary Fofana marchait lentement sur le sentier poussiéreux, une enveloppe serrée dans sa main moite. Il s'arrêta devant une petite maison faite d’argile, aux fenêtres en bois usé. C’était là qu’il vivait avec elle : Zamblé Sandrine, la femme qu’il aimait profondément.


Elle était enceinte, très enceinte. Ses pas étaient lents, ses gestes lourds, mais son sourire restait lumineux. Lorsqu’elle vit Bakary, elle sut immédiatement que quelque chose n’allait pas.


— Tu vas quelque part ? demanda-t-elle, inquiète.


Il hocha la tête, les yeux fuyants.


— Je n’ai plus le choix, Sandrine... Il faut que je parte.

— Partir ? Maintenant ? Alors que je vais bientôt accoucher ?

— Je sais... mais il n’y a plus de travail ici. J’ai trouvé une piste à Abidjan. Je dois essayer. Pour nous. Pour les enfants.


Elle sentit les larmes monter. Il sortit alors l’enveloppe de sa poche.


— Si jamais quelque chose m’arrive... ou si je ne peux pas revenir tout de suite, cette lettre expliquera tout.


Il posa tendrement sa main sur son ventre rond.


— Je reviendrai, je te le promets.


Puis, sans se retourner, il disparut dans l’obscurité du soir, laissant derrière lui une femme enceinte, une lettre... et un avenir incertain.
