“You too should’ve died a long time ago. You’re nothing but a waste of space, you don’t deserve the air you breathe.” The young man whispered behind the old lady sitting in front of a vanity table. His words aimed right into her ear so it’d echo inside her soul. She looked at her own reflection in the little mirror positioned against the wall, she was shaking, every single bone of hers was shaking uncontrollably, she tried to make her hands stay still but her body was so submerged in fear it was no longer responding to her demands.

“Leave me alone, please. Please, I’m begging you. I already said I’m sorry, it was a long time ago, what else do you want me to do?” The lady cried, her hands together begging for some hint of mercy in this boy’s face that seemed so pale, so emotionless, but still, his voice carried so much determination.

“I want you to pay in this same way.” He responded behind his teeth, his eyes now darker than ever, like two big, black, shining jewels in his skin pale as snow. It seemed like her despair was feeding him.

Why did such a young man hold so much rage against an old lady like Susan? Why did he even care about what happened in her past? And so what she had helped in her sister’s murder? So what she had known for months where her body was hidden and still collaborated with the police to help them find her so loved sister? It’s not like she didn’t deserve what happened to her. It’s not like she didn’t see it coming. After she took all their parents’ money to herself, proclaiming it hers and left Susan without even a penny to sustain herself and her three kids. She deserved it. Yes. She deserved it. Susan had repeated it to herself throughout all these years. For 43 years, Susan had tried to convince herself she was not guilty, and now a little boy wouldn’t stop harassing her? Bringing back past business for no reason at all? Susan had lived a decent life since then, she was an active member of society, she was a respectful lady. She did not deservethis.

“Please. I did nothing wrong.” She looked up at him through the mirror, her round blue eyes watering.

“Who sees you like that, Susan, wouldn’t guess the monster you really are.” A soft female voice said from behind. Sitting on the edge of the bed, with her arms crossed was a young girl, the same age as the threatened teenage boy.

The moon outside the room was big and its light was coming through the big glass windows as it was curious too about what was going on inside the room.

Susan saw something reflecting the moonlight. She moved her eyes slightly to the left. Right next to the girl, supported against one of the bed’s legs were an ax. It immediately made her mind travel to that fateful day and suddenly the words“I want you to pay in the same way”made sense to her.

The aged woman threw herself to the ground. On her knees with her hands together, she looked up to the teenagers.

“Please, let me live, I promise I won’t do anything. I promise it was an accident. I didn’t really mean it”

“Lying during your last minutes, Susan White?” The female youth proclaimed. She was still in the same position, her body all relaxed as seeing a 73 old woman on her knees begging for mercy was part of her night routine.

The boy walked up next to the bed, Susan followed his every move with her wide eyes and mouth open like she was about to ponder some more, but her brain hadn’t fully processed it yet. The pale, dark haired boy raised the ax from the ground effortlessly, it fit his hand like a glove. He slightly tilted his head to look at it as the moonlight danced through the blade. He walked slowly up to Susan.

“Any last words?” He looked down on the pitiful woman with a defiant smile.

Suddenly, the woman’s posture straightened up, she pulled her hands out of the mercefull gesture and rested it next to her body. She looked up at him, right into his black eyes.

“I regretnothing.”
