Daddy's Girl - Prologue
“Princess? You awake?” Nina kept her eyes closed her back to her bedroom door. She didn’t feel like a Dad lecture tonight, she was tired and she just wanted to sleep. She knew the lecture was coming because she had shouted at her Mum. Her Mum deserved it, she was a shell of a person, always off her face on prescription drugs. Nina thought hard but she honestly couldn't remember the last time her mother was present. Her whole childhood she had been like a walking carcass. Nina couldn't understand why she was so miserable, she had everything. No-one understood what it was like to have a mother who was right there, but simultaneously, so far out of reach.
She couldn't fathom why her Dad didn't leave, she would, love was indeed blind. Her Mum had clearly gone running to him the minute he walked through the door and told him about their argument. Like always he was coming to make peace and excuse her behaviour. Nina couldn’t be bothered. She couldn’t wait to get her own place and away from this drama.
He gently shook her shoulder to see if she was awake, she flinched, he must have caught her with his nail. She heard his footsteps moving away from the bed and heard the click of the door closing. She suddenly felt exhausted, she could barely raise her eyelids as she succumbed to unconsciousness.
