Chapter 1
Summer is long gone, and spring is the most pleasant season. The cool breeze from the window disturbs a woman sleeping curled up in her bed. Yuna, a recent business graduate who had recently quit her job to take a break, is awakened by her motherβs voice from downstairs.
βYuna, hurry up! Guests are about to arrive!β
Yuna grumbles as she tosses in bed, but after her motherβs persistent urging, she reluctantly gets up. Sleep is her favorite activity, and she often cancels plans to stay in bed.
She lazily gets out of bed, rubs her eyes, and heads to the bathroom to freshen up. Looking at her disheveled hair, she mutters, βI look terrible.β
She needs to freshen up quickly to go to the mall to buy a cake for the guests. She wonders who the guests could be since they donβt have many relationships that would bring someone to their home. After changing, she heads downstairs and out of the house, informing her mother, βMom, Iβm leaving!β as she struggles to put on her shoes, cursing her laziness.
The woman strolled through the streets of Seoul, enjoying the gentle breeze and the rustling of leaves in the trees. The fresh morning air filled her lungs as she made her way to her favorite bakery.
Entering the bakery, the enticing aroma of freshly baked cakes greeted her, bringing a smile to her face. She perused the display of beautiful cakes, each one more tempting than the last, making it difficult for her to choose just one.
Finally, a particular cake caught her eye, and she made a quick decision to purchase it. With a big smile on her face, she pointed to the cake she wanted to buy.
I would like to buy this one,β she requested, but at the same time, she heard the same thing from a male voice. They both demanded the same cake.
She glanced at the man next to her, examining his looks in a minute. She noticed him wearing an elegant suit as if he were heading somewhere very important.
His hair was pushed back with gel, with one strand brushing his forehead, making his jawline sharper. Not to ignore the expensive Rolex watch he was wearing. The Gucci brooch on his coat represented his class and how rich this man is.
Lastly, she looked into his eyes. He had black hair, matching his black eyes, and it felt like he stopped his movement when he looked at her. He might not have made it obvious, but his body language somehow showed that he was surprised by her presence.
Her excitement for the cake didnβt last for long.
Um, Iβm sorry, but Iβm going to buy it,β she apologized politely, trying not to ruin her mood. Even though the person seemed nice, Yuna had a dislike for rich people, viewing them as arrogant. Her preconceived notion of wealthy individuals influenced her more than his handsome appearance.
βIβm sorry, but I am going to buy it, and thatβs final,β he asserted with a slight smile, tilting his head, which irritated her, making her feel like she was being ordered around. She glared at the man, who was now thanking the person who had packed the cake in a decorative box.
βI picked it first,β she huffed, reaching for the cake.
βI already discussed paying for it,β he said gently, taking the box in his hands and starting to move towards the cashier. However, a feminine voice stopped him.
βExcuse me!β
In the next moment, the cake was no longer in the manβs possession.
βI would have given it to you right away, but I canβt compromise on my strawberry cake, Maβam,β he said, taking it back, trying not to be rude. The cake seemed incredibly important to him, almost as if his life depended on it.
The back-and-forth of snatching the cake continued for a few minutes. A loud gasp escaped her lips when the cake became unbalanced and fell to the floor, causing her world to feel like it had come crashing down.
The man looked at the destroyed cake with a defeated look, letting out a deep sigh, while the woman gasped in shock. The well-dressed man remarked, βYou destroyed my cake, young lady.β
βThat was, my cake!β Yuna exclaimed, pointing at herself.
He raised his eyebrows and gave a bored expression, almost taunting, βAre you for real?β
Before he could finish his sentence, a boy in a suit, presumably his friend, stepped in. He had dark brown hair and big black doe eyes. Though he seemed to be the manβs friend, his tone was apologetic towards her.
βIβm sorry, miss, but weβre in a hurry. My friend can be quite annoying sometimes,β he apologized, bowing. The man looked offended by his friendβs impression.
βAre you serious, Jungkook?β The black-haired man sounded offended, not seeing himself at fault.
βAt least he has manners,β Yuna scoffed, crossing her arms and rolling her eyes.
The black-haired man smirked, ready to provoke her further. βLook whoβs talking!β he retorted, rolling his eyes but secretly amused.
Yuna had enough and exclaimed, βYou spider!β Her outburst caught the attention of everyone in the bakery, making them the center of attention.
βHey, thatβs disrespectful,β he snapped, stepping forward, but Jungkook quickly intervened.
She laughed at his reaction and teased, βYou also remind me of a horse.β
This made him gasp, covering his mouth in shock, βJungkook, tell her I have a modelβs face!β But Jungkook was struggling to contain his laughter, much to the manβs dismay.
βListen, lady, do you even know my face is worth magazine covers?β he boasted.
She chuckled and replied, βYou wish,β causing him to gasp even louder, while Jungkook held him back, trying to calm him down.
Before he could say more, the seemingly polite Jungkook started pulling him towards the bakeryβs main door, dragging him forcefully.
βYouβll regret saying that once you find out who I am,β he warned, pulling away from Jungkook, adjusting his coat, and storming out of the bakery in a huff.
Yuna chuckled to herself, muttering, βAs if youβd suddenly become my fiancΓ©, pfft.β
Yuna arrived home feeling exhausted, carrying a one-pound almond cake. She took off her shoes and headed to the kitchen, where her mother was baking cookies, filling the air with a delightful aroma. Yuna sat on a stool in the kitchen until her mother asked her to make tea.
After a moment, the doorbell rang, alerting her, and her mother told her to open the door, assuming it must be the guest they were expecting. She had a bright smile on her face as she walked towards the main door, but her mind went blank when she saw an unexpected man standing in front of her.
The same suit, black hair, and expensive suit made her eyes widen for a moment, while the man in front of her waved his hand at her with a small smile, not surprised at all, as if he was expecting to see her. He waited for her to invite him in. She looked down at his hands holding a bag with a bakery name on it.
So, he bought a cake to come here? she thought to herself
Finally, when she registered his presence, one word, more like a question, came from her mouth, βYou?!β
βI have a name, too,β he chuckled as he ran his fingers through his hair sarcastically and walked past her, making her gasp at how he welcomed himself as if he was familiar with the house.
βWhat are you doing here? You chased me, didnβt you?β She closed the door and started following him as he stopped near the sofa in the living room, placing the cake box on the table and sitting leisurely on the comfortable couch.
He tilted his head at her and questioned, βWhat if I say yes, I chased you, then?β
βHow dare you?! I wonβt-β
βWhatβs this noise about?β a feminine voice grabbed their attention, making them look at the woman coming out from the kitchen, Yunaβs mother.
She smiled widely at the man sitting on the couch as she walked near him to greet him. The man in the suit got up, bowing at her, to which she patted his back, βYou didnβt have any problem getting here, son?β
Son?!
Yuna stood in utter confusion, wondering how things turned out this way. How come her mother knows him so well, and she doesnβt even know him?
Her mother turned towards Yuna and introduced him to her daughter, βHoney, meet this gentleman. He is Taehyung,Kim Taehyung, also my boss.β
" Your what?β
She blinked her eyes continuously. Her tone was more like confirming to herself that she heard her right. It was like someone struck something on her head.
While she was still processing the situation, her mother called out, βGive him some company. I shall bring some snacks, okay?β She flashed a small smile at her daughter and left her in this awkward situation.
The man in front of her buttoned up his coat and walked a few steps towards her, dipping his hands in his pants pockets, βNice to meet you, Kang Yuna.β
The sudden calling of her name made her more shocked that he knew her already.
He moved his hand forward towards her, βIt will be good to get to know you more from now on.β
She looked at his hand blankly, mumbling, βShit-β
And the story starts~
