Chapter 1
I’m just another damn demon.
I sit here avoiding the humans; they’re clueless about what sits next to them.
So oblivious... it’s intriguing, truly.
To be so innocent or maybe just stupid.
Some of them stop to look twice at me as if they sense something is off with me.
I take great pleasure in making them squirm in their comfy seats.
If I feel their stare, I will slowly turn my head and stare back until they leave.
The smell of their fear feeds me just enough to keep going day to day... but I crave more.
I took leave of my cozy cafe full of idiots and made my way down to the subway.
Humans always got spooked easily at things that went bump in the night.
It started out a slow night, just couples passing by too caught up in their own bullshit to even notice me on the bench.
I disguised myself to blend in with them, so maybe this was the problem?
I got out of view and made my way to the bathroom area.
Once inside, I took off my hood.
My long hair fell down past my chest to my knees.
Maybe this may help.
I went back to my spot.
The sunlight from the entrance was nowhere to be seen, and the chilly night was setting in.
More people were coming down, and I was in clear view for all to see.
First, people just pointed and whispered.
Stupid humans, I laughed to myself.
The deviant things they talked about unaware I could hear.
I smiled under my covered face.
It was an hour into this new spot, and no fear had risen.
The moon was my friend, so maybe a pleasant stroll would help.
I slowly got up from my spot and started to leave when I smelt it.
The most amazing and powerful smell of fear I had caught in years!
I turned to see a short, frail girl; her hair resembled mine, she had bright baby blue eyes and the look of utter fear in them...it was delicious.
I took a step towards her, and I could hear her heart skip a beat as I did.
The surrounding people stopped and now looked at us.
At last I felt it, FEAR!
Humans feared the unknown, and I was just that!
More kept coming and stopped to watch us.
We didn’t even move, but they felt the need to stop and stare, and with each passing second the fear grew.
I wanted more!
I took another step towards the girl, hoping for another rush of her delightful taste to fill me.
She did.
Her heart skipped, and her breath quickened, and the crowd whispered around us.
More beautiful fear rushed to me.
At that moment, nobody moved.
My head was still turned down from their sight... I slowly raised my head.
I heard a few gasps of silent screams as my head twisted at angles it should not.
The fear had grown tremendously in the humans; they were stones in my presence.
I smiled at this.
I jerked a bit with my arms to throw my coat off.
A loud, shrill scream cut through the air.
I didn’t care about where it came from or from whom; all I cared about was this girl’s fear, her taste had sent me into a frenzy.
Next, my body raised up now with my head still slowly jerking oddly as I did.
The humans’ hearts were all beating so fast, and the intense rush I felt was overwhelming!
So much fear!
So much fear and my slow ascent made them quiver, and I breathed it in gladly!
I had risen now to half my size.
The girl had turned sickly pale white.
I took another step towards her.
A girl close by screamed in utter... delightful... fear.
Another girl fainted nearby.
I twitched as I reached out for the girl.
My arm bent at angles that made the girl’s eyes dim in horror at the sight.
I had the crowd’s attention. But I had to make them all know genuine fear...
I stopped reaching for her and slowly turned my head to my right.
A couple was standing there, the girl cowering in her boyfriend’s arms.
Tears streamed down her face; his face froze in fear.
I let out a laugh and pointed at them.
My long fingers with their dagger nails made them step back, and the man then soiled himself.
I looked at the next couple and again raised my hand and pointed to them.
The man shoved his woman behind him... tough guy.
I smiled and quickly grabbed him and brought him to my side.
Everyone screamed, and some began running off.
I couldn’t have that!
I quickly used the shadows against them and turned them into their worst nightmares.
Many things appeared in front of them, from insects to other humans.
The rest were now in shock and stopped dead, and I could hear some saying, “This is just a nightmare; it’s not real!”
That couldn’t happen.
I let out a laugh and caught all of their attention.
The man I had grabbed was trying to get away but was not going to.
I picked him up by his throat slowly and raised him into the air.
The silent screams and his woman I heard sobbing in the back.
The girl I saw was now crying... I felt so alive!
Just as I had brought the man up to my face, I at last spoke.
“Do you know what I am?” I asked him.
The man froze.
“You’re...” he stuttered out.
I gave him a slight squeeze, and he coughed up some blood as my nails dug into his neck.
“A DEMON!”
To my surprise, it was the girl who had said it.
She was no longer fixed in fear but smiling.
I threw the man and rushed at her.
I went to pick her up, but in a flash she vanished!
“RUN NOW!” she yelled, and the crowd parted like a stampede of wild animals.
I tried to grab them as they ran, but something kept them out of my reach!
I grew angry at this and let out a shrill scream of my own.
A few of the humans fell to their knees at my wail.
Quickly I raced to them and tried to grab them, but as soon as I did, my attempt was... deflected.
I felt a sharp pain in my back and looked around to see the girl... had stabbed me!
She stabbed me!
The pain was intense, and I found myself quickly as I had made the human fall to their knees, on my own.
The girl, now smiling brightly, walked over to me and bent down.
“You demons always get so cocky; it makes my job a hell of a lot easier, so thanks.” She said in a smug voice.
I tried to get up, but I couldn’t move.
“You can try all you like, but you won’t be leaving this place.” She laughed.
As she laughed, I took in her scent... I now saw what had happened.
The girl was a damn Fey!
The smell was overwhelming coming off her kind, and the fear smelled even better.
She twirled around me, laughing and dancing.
I felt the dagger in my back, and with all my power I repelled it out of me.
Hot searing pain fled from the spot, but it would not stop me.
The girl was in shock, and her fear was back.
I slammed her into the ground and peeled back my hair, revealing my eyes.
She screamed.
“Cocky?” I laughed.
“Your kind has never won; what made you think you would now?” I said mockingly.
As she opened her mouth, I quickly thrust mine over hers and sucked out her soul!
She lay there now with no light in her eyes.
I got up and tossed her over my back.
“Let’s go home, dear. It’s getting close to sunrise.” I said and laughed as I felt her body rock back and forth.
“A permanent thank you, my cocky little friend.” I mocked as I opened a portal to my domain.
I locked her in a cage and gave her soul back.
She seemed shocked at this.
“What do you want from me!?” she screamed.
I sat back and laughed as she banged on the cage.
The old runes on it danced at every blow she gave it.
“You’re my pet now, a fey in my lair with her soul... I will never have to leave again to feed.” I said and smiled.
The look of horror rippled across her face.
I smiled and roared with laughter as she fell down and cried.
“Oh yes, I can take your soul whenever I choose and make you my plaything for eternity!” I roared.
She cried harder.
I got up and ran my hands down the cage.
She scooted away.
“There, there now, my little dove, no need to be scared.” I said, laughing.
She looked up at me and glared.
“Fuck you!” She snapped.
I smiled.
“If you insist.” I said, grinning.
Again, her amazing fear came back, and I took it in.
I would never hurt her... but she didn’t need to know that.
I went to my candles and looked back at her.
“So what scares you, little fey? Is it the things that go... bump in the night or the bumping you wish to have with me?” I said, grinning.
Her fear rose to a peak I had never thought possible!
“NO!” She choked out as I blew out the candles.
She screamed, and I lay back and laughed.I’m just another damn demon.
