Chapter 1: Flight into the jaws of hell

Near the town of Cottesmore at twenty-one hundred hours a large gray wolf Sargent stands on the tarmac. The cold night air nips at his nose as he stares at the C-47s lined up on the tarmac. He feels a warm hand rest on his shoulder. "Sarg we're finishing up our final equipment checks." The gray wolf Sargent nods softly watching the flight crews prep their C-47s. "Wheels up in sixty." He says softly. The larger brown wolf removes his hand from the Sargents shoulder and walks back over to the squad. "Sarg said wheels up in sixty." He says in a soft southern accent. "Hey Diesel what's up with sarg? he seems distant and quite." Diesel sighs softly as he sits on the tarmac beside his squad. "Red, Shamrock's just got a lot on him right now twenty-one year's old just promoted he's got a lot of responsibility on him. Sarg is alright he just wants to see us all home safe he's worried." "Do you blame him?" Diesel lets out a huff "no buck i don't blame him we'll be lucky to hit the ground." Shamrock's ears tune in on their conversation pulling him out of his trance like state. He walks over to his squad and sits down beside corporal Diesel. "Yeah im worried about the operation the plains will come in at low altitude still above the cloud line but there's no cover the skys are clear and open. So yes im a little worried." As the units all arrive at the tarmac everyone could tell there was a dark tension a feeling of dread washing over every young male there beside dog company was Sugar company. Diego is the company NCO of Sugar company a massive hell hound his scorched bones and flaming fur a fearsome sight Diego walks over to Sgt. Shamrock and extends a gloved hand Shamrock grabs his hand firmly. "I wish you the best fellas see yall on the ground." Diego says with a sincere smile. "Keep you're flames dimly lit old friend we'll try to regroup when we hit Normandy." Shamrock says softly. Diego walks back over to his men as Shamrock gathers his men getting them into formation. The time finally arrives all company's Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog, and Sugar company's load up onto the C-47s. Multiple C-47s take off entire fleets of plains leave the tarmac gaining air as they speed off into the night tourds France. "This thing looks like it was built and inspected by helen keller herself!" Buck chuckles softly as he sits beside the radio operator golden retriever Pvt. Ace who works on his pack radio. Shamrock stands beside the door. The rest of the flight is quite everyone sits still praying or smoking or just thinking about their family's. As soon as the C-47s fly over into France the surch lights and the flack fire from the AA-guns below lights up the skys Sargent shamrock starts to bark orders at his men. "STAND UP! HOOK UP! WE WAIT TILL WE GET THE GREEN LIGHT DO I MAKE MY SELF CLEAR!" The entire squad do as he commands giving him their answer simultaneously. "YES SARGENT, PERFECTLY CLEAR SARGENT!" Shamrock stands by the door as he swings it open seeing a terrifying sight plains falling from the skys. A C-47 beside his becomes fully engulfed in flames as he watches troops jump from the plain first five troops perfectly fine no fire on them but what he saw next terrified him to his core men lit up like torches throwing them selves from the almost destroyed C-47 plummeting to their deaths not one not two but eight. Eight brave men as shamrock watches in terror and sadness flack fire takes out one of their engines beside the door. "SARG WE GOTTA JUMP OR WE'LL END UP LIKE THEM!" Ace screams over the loud rumbling of the three remaining engines shamrock looks at his watch and gives the pilots a thumbs up the light turns green. Shamrock stands by the door with his hand on the eav of the door shouting at his men. "GO! GO! GO! EVERYBODY OUT NOW!" The entire squad clear the C-47 as they deploy their chutes gliding down to the ground shamrock throws himself from the plain deploying his chute as he glides down towards the ground.

Shamrock lands on the ground in the middle of a farmers field not far from a cobblestone wall wich marked the road. in the field he sees a couple more chutes landings close by he grabs his gear cutting his chute. He walked into the darkness silently after about 100 yards of walking he finds himself at a wind mill he could hear voices coming from the inside. "Thunder" he whispers quietly as he waits for a response. "Flash" a familiar voice cuts through the silence of the darkness. Shamrock walks into the mill seeing his squad along with two unfamiliar faces. Corporal Diesel walks over to him putting his hand on Shamrock's shoulder. "These guys jumped with able company sarg they've been looking for their company since the landing. Sparkplug,Tyson get over here." The large tiger wearing corporal stripes walks over along with a Doberman, Sparkplug wearing rank of pfc Sgt. Shamrock pulls them into a separate room of the mill. "Alright fellas listen up yall are with my squad until we can regroup with able company understood." "Yes sir" "yes sir" all three of them walk back into the main room the two members of able company sit back down. Diesel walks into the other room along with Shamrock "sarg whats the plan here?" "Well first off we gotta take out those AA-guns before they get a chance to take out anymore of our birds from what i can tell theirs an AA-gun crew about two klicks north of us we're gonna take it out then take the one closer to the bridge. link up with able company at the bridge and secure the bridge head we move out in ten notifie the men corporal." Diesel nods and walks out of the room. "We move out in ten fellas gear up." Shamrock picks up his tompsen and makes his way into the darkness the squad start heading towards their objective finding them selves one klick north of where they linked up shamrock and his squad crouch down behind a hedge row on the side of the road as the sound of voices coming from up the road. "Sarg it sounds like a German unit coming down from the north of us what should we do sarg." Diesel whispers quietly "we let them pass we gotta get those AA-guns we gotta catch the gun crew's by sunrise." Shamrock says his finger on his trigger and looking down the sight. Five Germans walk by the squad disappearing from view. Shamrock and his squad move out after walking another klick they find their target in the middle of a farm yard. shamrock looks threw his binoculars counting the enemys between the muzzle flashes. "By my count there's three on the Gun two by the stable one by the main gate and one by the truck their spred out so we're going to flank them. Diesel Tyson you're with me. Buck, Sparkplug, ace you guys work your way down to their left. When you're in position you wait till we open fire then you guys open fire from the left trapping them in. Alright move out."

Buck ace and Sparkplug ease their way into the stable on the left side. Shamrock Diesel and Tyson open fire from the front the muzzle flashes erupte from the left flank catching the Germans off gard taking out the two at the stables and one of the AA-GUN gunners as Shamrock Diesel and Tyson mop up the rest of the Germans. Shamrock motions to pvt. Rialy "Rialy put a satuil charge on that damn gun." The otter runs towards the gun placing the charg and sets the timer he runs back to shamrock and his squad. Shamrock and his squad quickly disappear into the darkness.

I’m in awe of your consistency. Every chapter shows the same love for detail and depth. The latest one especially it was hauntingly beautiful, crafted with heart and intelligence. Your storytelling feels cinematic yet intimate. You’ve built a world I never want to leave.
