THE BATTLE OF MAGNETS AND MEMORIES

The room buzzed with the chatter of excited children and the soft clinking of glass beakers. It was a Saturday morning at Bangalore’s most prestigious Science Club, where young minds explored the wonders of robotics, circuits, and elementary chemistry. Among the sea of eager students, two little boys stood at the heart of what would become a scene to remember.

"That’s my magnet!" shouted Aarav, a sharp-eyed, feisty five-year-old with an untamed mop of hair and a fiery temper to match. He clutched one end of a horseshoe magnet like it was a prized possession.

"You took it from the table! I was using it first!" Vivaan, equally determined, refused to let go of the other end. His brows furrowed in frustration as the children around them began to circle like bees to honey.

Their struggle ended with the inevitable—one strong tug, a toppled water beaker, and the magnet flying across the room. A collective gasp rose. The room fell silent.

The science teacher hurried over, followed by the club manager. “Whose children are these?”

Within minutes, two women burst into the room from opposite directions.

One, elegant in a crisp cotton saree and gold-rimmed glasses , her expression equal parts worry and command. The other, casual yet striking in high-waisted jeans and a tailored white shirt, her hair pulled into a no-nonsense ponytail.

The first woman reached Vivaan. “Vivaan! Kya kiya tumne?” Her voice was calm but firm.

The other crouched in front of Aarav, frowning deeply. “Aarav, how many times have I told you—no fighting!”

The women glanced at each other for a brief, unfamiliar moment. No recognition. No shared past.

“I’m sorry,” the woman with the ponytail said first. “He can be a little stubborn sometimes.”

The woman in the saree smiled politely. “It happens. Boys will be boys.”

A moment passed in silence before one of them spoke again.

"Would you like to grab a coffee? Maybe we can talk while these two calm down?"

“Sure,” the other replied. “I think they’ll be better off if we do.”

Later That Day – At the Café

A cozy café just around the corner became their meeting ground. Ananya, the woman in the saree, ordered chamomile tea while Sia, her counterpart, settled for an iced latte. Their sons sat across from them munching on cookies, now surprisingly friendly.

"I’m Ananya Kapoor," she offered, breaking the ice.

“Sia Mehta,” the other replied with a gentle smile.

They talked about the usual kids, Bangalore traffic, schools. Then slowly the conversation warmed.

"We just shifted here for a hospital expansion project. My husband’s a neurosurgeon, and I help manage operations. We're from Mumbai. You?"

"Mumbai too," Sia smiled. “We moved here two years back. My husband’s in the tech world. AI-healthcare startup. We met through our families. Arranged marriage.”

Ananya raised her brows. “Same here. Arranged marriage too.”

They both chuckled.

"It’s strange how the world works," Ananya mused. "We both land up here with kids the same age, same roots, and even similar stories."

Sia smiled. "Maybe the universe wanted us to meet."

Ananya sipped her tea. “We should meet again with our husbands. Maybe dinner?”

“I was about to say the same,” Sia said. “Let’s plan it. It would be nice to have new friends in the city.”

They exchanged numbers.

And that night, they set up a casual dinner at the same café for the following weekend. A simple meet-up. Nothing extraordinary.

Or so they thought.

🍽 The Weekend Dinner

It was a cool Saturday evening when the two couples met again. Vivaan and Aarav ran around the outdoor garden seating, full of life. Ananya and Sia arrived first, chatting like old friends. Soon, the men joined them.

Dr. Karan Kapoor : calm, composed, carrying the air of someone always thinking three steps ahead kissed Ananya’s forehead lightly before sitting.

Raghav Mehta arrived just a few minutes later. A grey t-shirt and denim jacket, casual confidence in his stride.

As soon as Raghav laid eyes on Ananya, he froze.

“Ananya?”

Ananya blinked, then gasped. “Raghav?”

Their voices overlapped.

Sia and Karan looked confused.

“You two know each other?” Karan asked.

Raghav laughed. “Know? We were best friends in 12th grade! Partners in crime!”

Ananya chuckled. “Still the same, Raghav. Always exaggerating.”

Raghav turned to Sia. “She once got me suspended from school. Chemistry lab. Long story.”

Sia raised her brows. “That’s…unexpected.”

Ananya smiled. “We lost touch after college. Different cities. Life happened.”

“But seems like life had other plans,” Raghav added softly.

For the rest of the evening, the couples laughed, shared stories, exchanged numbers. From strangers to something far more comforting. Familiar.
