Chapter 1: Fatal mistake
-How did this happen?!
I still couldn't believe it. I had to save this world. The world in which I was reborn. But the irreparable had happened.
-I never want to see you again! How dare you insult the hero! I'm kicking you out of the group! We'll defeat the demon king without you!
-As you wish. But you'll regret it. ...
With these words, I left the group. And I knew it would be like this. I hoped to defeat the king after these empty-headed fools fought him first and wore him down.
But I miscalculated. Falling from the blow of the demon lord, I once again regretted not helping right away. I was too confident.
“Forgive me.” ...
Whispering this, my eyes closed.
Suddenly, I heard several voices sounding close to me.
“This is bad, this is bad, this is bad!”
“Don't worry, we'll return everything to the beginning.”
“How did he manage to mix up the characteristics and companions!”
“You know how he likes to joke with you.”
I slowly opened my eyes. Several people were standing in front of me. Because of my position on the ground, I couldn't see who they were. But the voices sounded familiar. Two more people joined their conversation.
-In any case, we'll have to return the boy to the beginning of the cycle and correct the mistakes.
-I don't want to stay here again.
-You have nothing to complain about. You know that yourself.
-But you know how tiring it is...
-It's our job. But we get paid well for it. How about going to Rolo's tavern? I heard he got a new batch of wyvern breath. With a new flavor.
-I'm in. I'm sick of tea. I need a break.
-Me too.
-The beer here is mediocre, just like the wine. I'm in.
I listened to the voices and realized who the four people standing there were. It shocked me. One of the voices belonged to the princess of our kingdom, Maria. She was a beautiful, sweet, and kind girl. Many people tried to achieve incredible feats and deeds for her hand. The second voice belonged to Baron Urio. He was a fat, nasty, cruel villain who humiliated and exploited the people who lived on his land. But I thought we had put him in prison for his crimes! He was supposed to spend his whole life in prison.
The third voice belonged to Lonar, the commander of the guard. He was a fair and hard-working favorite of the people who had served the kingdom faithfully for over 20 years. I admired him and hoped to become like him someday.
The last voice was Countess Mirek's. She was a rather unpleasant person. Meticulous, dry, sarcastic... She only did things that were in her own interests. She cared only about herself and her property. On top of that, she was greedy and envious.
The countess shouted:
“Hey, up there! Are you going to be digging around for much longer?”
“Mirek, babe! You know I'm checking what's wrong here. You know I have to get to the place where I need to check everything.”
“You've been getting there for five minutes now. You're always so slow with this stuff. It'll be easy to recreate.”
“But I'll still have the feelings and memories.”
“No, you won't. You know that.”
I didn't understand anything anymore. The fifth voice belonged to Silas, the son of an aristocrat from a neighboring country. He was a very proud and confident villain. In reality, he was a weakling who hid behind his father's power. I helped put him in prison for crimes against mermaids.
I opened my eyes and raised my head slightly. I noticed that they all had their backs turned to me and their faces turned toward the demon lord. Sylas' voice came from the demon lord, who stood motionless. It was as if someone had paused him. I continued to listen warily. I was in shock and had many questions, but unfortunately, I couldn't make a sound. It was a miracle that I hadn't died, but an even greater miracle was before me.
The countess continued:
“Poor child, such a mistake...”
The princess reassured her with these words:
“Don't worry, he won't remember or recall the feeling. And we will put everything back in its place and give him a happy ending.”
What child are they talking about?
Meanwhile, I heard the sound and words of Silas.
“He's slightly broken in the stats area.”
Urio exhaled and said:
“I think it's a problem with the new line. I'll talk to... him. Don't worry. I'll handle it myself.”
Lonar exhaled and nodded to the countess. Then I heard footsteps and a thud on the ground. It sounded like someone was walking and leaning on a stick or... a staff. The person who entered was the lord lich we had killed. He stopped and said.
"I see you still haven't cleaned everything up. Child, it's bad to eavesdrop. And to peek, too.
And then everyone turned around.
