Spring and Summer
Spring
It’s April, the scents of freshly blooming flowers filled up the air. The pink cherry petals from the surrounding trees were happily hitching a ride on the warm breeze that had crossed countless rivers, rice fields, mountains, and valleys up north, just to place a single petal on my open hand and another one hitting me in the eye.
“Alex, are you alright?”
That’s when I saw Sky. Not The Sky. Sky, my classmate. Quite matching name I’d say. Calm, Charming, and yeah, has a huge heart that spreads around the Horizon.
“Something hit your eye?” Sky, with those hands softer than the petal itself on my shoulder and a voice that’s overflowing with concern.
“Yeah... just a cherry petal.” The relief I saw in Sky’s brown eyes that’s perfectly lit by the morning sunlight to show the intricate details of that chocolate-y iris was something I’ve never seen in a person. Not this close at least.
“Alrighty then, C’mon let’s keep moving we have a bus to catch.” Sky held my hands, with a touch that felt cold and warm at the same time pulled me forward, along.
It’s kind of weird to think that we only became friends recently.
Along with the visual a treat, and scents so sweet of blooming flowers... Something else is blooming too.
Summer
I still remember that day, that delicacy of Sky’s hands that held me. It’s as if the spring was holding it. And before I could let go of it, Summer arrived along with the joy of vacation.
As the petals fell and leaves started to grow, I could feel that feeling, that warmth, that closeness growing between us too. The same heart which had its doors locked, somehow opened without a knock. Maybe it’s because how Sky took care of me even when it’s just a mild fever, instead of attending the classes. Whatever the reason is, it let Sky in. That moment I knew, it’s something that I’ll be cherishing forever.
Today is the day, of my first date. Yeah, It all happened so quickly I’m afraid I would’ve missed most of it had I blinked my eye. But how could I? When it’s the Sky... My Sky.
“Sorry Alex, I forgot where I kept my keys. You won’t mind if we take the bus right?” Yep, No one’s perfect. Something that Sky reminds me pretty often.
“No, No worries. I actually kinda wished we could take the bus today. Afterall, those trips were the ones that made us this close.” As I completed the sentence, I couldn’t find words for myself to explain the joy Sky felt. That apologetic smile, that warmth of the hands which was somehow better than the scorching summer heat, those eyes glistening with the tears filled. My life never had a person like this, like Sky.
The bus trip went like a summer rain, short, but pleasant and definitely what we needed. All I could see was Sky’s eyes, the blinding smile. My eyes refused to move anywhere, my face on the other hand couldn’t stop blushing and nodding for the little things that came out of that beautiful pink lips. And then I blinked, We were at the Beach.
Yeah, An usual spot for a date. Nothing too special. But I loved it myself. I mean, where else would be a better place to see the beauty of The Sea with her waves playing with The Sky, and Sky.
“Ooh... Sky meeting the sea meeting the Sky? Love that.” I chuckled myself with my own pun as I clicked multiple pictures of everything that’s happening in front of me.
“Alex! C’mon... Join me!” Next thing I saw, Sky sprinting towards me, lifting me up with those strong arms, delicately placing me where the waves hit my dry feet. It was too cold for me. But as together with our hands interlocked, It was perfect.
My eyes couldn’t move an inch from looking at Sky’s Sun-kissed face, that’s exactly when the magic happened. We Kissed. That moment, didn’t even feel like a moment. I couldn’t feel anything other than those lips, that is as soft as the clouds in the Sky. Honestly, What else could I expect. The sea probably got jealous of me as one of her waves hit me a bit too hard, I could feel my legs giving up to keep the balance in the midst of this. And it eventually did. I didn’t realise it, all I could feel was the squish becoming less intense.
But Sky did, I felt the same strong arms on my back. Saving me from the fall I didn’t even notice. I opened my eyes, just to see Sky. Straight in those eyes. For God knows why, We kissed again. This time, more squished. Somehow, I could hear dozens of pigeons flapping their wings, probably flying. But my thoughts went nowhere. Not until another wave from the furious sea knocked both of us onto the gritty beach sand. Before I could utter a word from the lips that tasted as sweet as cotton candy. Sky suddenly stood up, immediately helping me to stand on my now unsteady legs that’s still shaking from the ‘adventure’ we had.
“I’m really sorry Alex! I just couldn’t-” Sky spilled those words onto me with the fear I could feel from here.
“Sky... No! Sure, it caught me in a surprise. But I loved every second of it. This is my first one after all.”
“It’s my first too! Are you sure you’re ok with this? I absolutely didn’t wa-” I’ve never seen Sky this emotional. It’s almost looking like those dewy eyes are gonna rain tears. I just couldn’t help myself after seeing it, I pulled Sky into a hug.
“I’m completely fine with this Sky. In fact, I love that it happened now. Best things happen unplanned right?” I tried my best to embrace Sky. I gently slid my hands across that strong back, didn’t stop until I felt the tension melting into my arms.
Before we knew it, Time brought us to a romantic dusk. The trip back was eerily silent. Mostly because we were just lost in each other’s eyes and the still lingering taste of the Kiss we had. Honestly, who could ask for a better summer vacation.
We were near our homes now... After seeing all the efforts Sky put, I decided to do one myself. Yeah, I kissed. Not too long or too short. Just Perfect. For a Goodbye and Goodnight.
I never knew falling in love would happen this quick.
P.S.: This is my first attempt to write a pure English story and first one of mine to be typed and made public. So I’d feel really really grateful to hear feedback from you. Make sure to leave it!.
