Power Surge: Road Trip - action packed journey
"Another action packed instalment of Power Surge from Abdo. This road trip is full of adventure, discovery and snark. Focus and Flare learning to work together is sweet as it is humorous. We see some new characters introduced, that are fun and mysterious. Friendships are formed and new dynamics are discovered. A sense of family, belonging and community is explored for our formidable pair. We see natural growth of character for both Flare and Focus. Not just in self discovery but of their abilities too. And for the first time Focus is rocked by feelings he believes he should not be experiencing. The seed of romance has definitely been planted, and Focus is no longer completely focused or unfazed. Their journey is not over and that won’t be the last of the action. I have a feeling they haven’t really been tested yet. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Luckily for me the next instalment is ready and waiting to be read."
Best Road trip
"This book is based on a road trip with Flare and Focus ( the sentence does not make sense here.. I mean not grammatically correct) Anyways, firstly everything has been described and written perfectly. The scenes don’t sound rushed neither forced emotions. Everything just flows perfectly! 🤌🏻 I definitely loved the spark of romance between both of them. Tho both of them don’t want to admit it. So we have Focus who is unbothered about everything until it comes to Coffee or his girlfriend Flare. I love his non- chalant personality. We see Focus teaching Flare how to drive, how to fight back and that’s really cute! And then we have Flare, who’s completely different from Focus. She has this really bubbly personality. She is really fond of using her surge. Love how she takes Focus advice so seriously. Both Flare and Focus have different personalities, yet they really care about each other. I particularly loved the interaction between Mr Gallaghar (hope I am saying the name correctly) where he basically advises Focus to express his love for Flare and not to hide it. We have a lot more interesting to read scenes too like Flare absorbing all her surge and Gauntlet’s fight with Focus. Also loved Mr Gallagher’s supportive personality And also the last chapter was definitely kind of funny and unexpected too. Great book! Definitely going to read Book 2!"

"Here's the review! SPOILER ALERT You’re definitely growing as a writer. From the start, I was hooked and stayed interested until the last chapter. Luckily, there was no Infinity until the very end, just kidding. I’ll comment on Focus and Flare individually, along with their trope. YESS, it’s official. Focus is one of the best characters I’ve read. I recall mentioning he sounds like a character from Urdu novels, but I believe Focus surpasses that. His way of teaching Flare basic life skills and driving (dunno if it’s basic) shows his caring yet laid-back nature. Focus usually remains unbothered, except when it comes to coffee. I know it’s for humor, but I take instructions seriously, coffee should be microwaved at 27 degrees, because, why not? Flare, on the other hand, is casual yet awkward. That’s their biggest similarity. I love how they're different yet similar at times. I absolutely adore how Flare takes Focus’s advice seriously and, despite annoying him at times, follows his suggestions it proofs that she trusts him with her life. Mr. Gallagher was an excellent supporting character, even offering them a ride to Alaska. That’s cool! The trope between Flare and Focus is quite heartwarming, though sometimes a bit cringe. But it’s okay, everything's cringe until it happens to you, so no red flags there. The ending was hilarious. I usually don’t like unfiltered stuff, but okay, some jokes really made me laugh. Also, can I get the book “What would Enigma do?” I want to burn it. Great work!!! "
Buckle Your Seatbelt and Let’s Go!
"If you’ve finished Abdo’s “Power Surge,” then you definitely need to add this anime styled screenplay to your reading list! Picking up right after the end of the previous story in this series, our heroes, Focus and Flare, take off on their way to Alaska in search of the villainous Infinity. After an enlightening and emboldened coffee stop, the pair are soon on the run from the Ironclad Response Unit soldiers. This leads the kids to the lovely town of Larkspur, where they meet a kind friend and have a chance to experience friendship, familial love, and community - something the two of them have never had the opportunity to do as Surges. I’m not going to spoil the story, because you should read it yourself, but Abdo does a great job of showing us fun, action, and heart in this lively story. Abdo’s world building and characters are always outstanding, and he does a fantastic job of showcasing the gray areas between good and bad. Grammatics are overall well done, albeit some run-on sentences, but he has a good way with words that keeps you wanting to read on. This story, like his others, feels very interactive. I can’t wait to read the next story in the series to find out what happens next! I read this story as a judge for the Green Exchange Awards 2026 contest, and it’s easy to see why this story has made it all the way into the final round of competition AND it won 2nd Place in the Humor Genre Category! More than just a road trip
"This story delivers a highly engaging adventure with a strong sense of progression and a clear, character-driven narrative. Flare and Focus are vividly brought to life, and their growth throughout the story feels natural. Focus becomes more emotionally invested, while Flare gradually learns to trust him and others. Their evolving dynamic, with subtle moments of awkwardness and tension, is particularly well done, adding depth, charm, and relatability. The plot unfolds logically, with characters and settings actively driving events forward, and the resolution ties together the central conflicts while effectively setting up future developments. There are a few areas for improvement, mostly in writing style and technical execution. Formatting and technical elements are not in line with standard screenplay conventions. Word choice can be repetitive at times, and sentences occasionally read as long and novel-like rather than concise and visual. A careful proofreading pass would also help smooth out minor grammatical and technical errors. Overall, despite these minor issues, this is a well-crafted, engaging story. The brilliant humour of the bonus recap chapter adds an extra layer of enjoyment, leaving the reader both entertained and invested in the characters’ journey, and looking forward to what comes next in the series 🖤"
Road Trip
" This book is a not a lengthy read and I’m quite impressed with the screenplay style used to present the action. It took me some time to get used to the unusual rhythm and the use of dialogue to do most of the worldbuilding and descriptive work. Scene notes were also an effective way of providing necessary details. This is a fairly relaxed screenplay, as the main characters are taking a break from intense action. Focus and Flare are getting to know each other on a deeper level as they fine tune Flare’s abilities and we learn Focus has an affinity for caffeine which is an obsession for latte perfection. His quirks make him far more human than his superpowers leave room to imagine. They run into some interesting characters on their road trip and I am looking forward to where it leads them on their journey to their next destination. There are also hints of developments in the background which add a sense of foreboding. I won’t spoil the read for any of you. You will have to turn the pages yourself. "
