Elariss: Selection
Selection is at 10am, I’m supposed to be paying attention but who cares? I think I know what weapons or whatever we’re learning about. *Why is Aeloria standing there isn’t she next?* “Eh hem Elariss Silathdiir it’s your turn. why are you staring off?” I whirl. “Shoot I’m sorry Mrs. Avriah.” I look ahead of me towards several class emblems: Servalence, magic, fighting, and scavenger. “Uhh-...Magic!” I stutter, Aeloria rolls her eyes and walks past. “Watch and learn Elariss.” She steps forward with that commanding presence of hers. “Shut up.” I sigh, grabbing onto my scroll. She points calmly. “I’m choosing fighting. Unlike you amateurs.” she holds out her hand expectantly. Mrs. Avriah sighs and hands Aeloria her scroll. “Next time please be more patient, Aeloria.” “Yeah, Aeloria, be patient.” I say smugly smirking. “Shut up Elariss.” She bites out glaring. I shut up but I’m still smirking. “Eh hem girls please pay attention.” Mrs. Avriah says exasperated. I snap to attention. “Sorry again Mrs.” I apologize quickly. She nods then says. “Elariss, you must choose one of the five magical weapons: wand, staff, power stone, artifact, or amulet.” “um. I’m not sure..” I admit. “That’s quite alright Elariss, you can go to trade class to learn which you prefer.” I nod satisfied with the idea. “Ok.” I respond. She turns to Aeloria. “Now Aeloria, which do you prefer? Sword, javelin, bow, gun, spear, daggers, throwing knives, or poison darts.” Aeloria looks at the options. *Dang it, I want a gun..* “I’ll take trade school. I have an idea, but I want to be confident in my answer.” She replies calmly and confidently. Mrs. Avriah nods approvingly. “I think that’s the perfect answer, Aeloria.” Aeloria nods and steps back, joining the others who are done. I walk over and join her. “You didn’t know what to choose did you?” She rolls her eyes. “Of course I knew! What do you mean I didn’t?” I look at her. “Well if you knew what you wanted why didn’t you just pick it?” “Um hello I don’t want to rush myself. so I’m going to try out all of them just in case.” “Yeah suuuure.” I say mockingly. “Ugh whatever.” She groans, annoyed. Mrs. Avrail continues to go through the line of elves, but I’m not paying attention. *Why are there 1680.5 tiles on the ceiling? Why not 1681? Why are only a third of them blue, three sixths green, but only one sixth yellow? That’s stupid. UGH.* Suddenly she finishes. “These are our students for the year’s magic step forward.” Me and a few other students step forward, people clap. “Thank you, now you may sit.” We walk to our seats and sit down. I start fiddling with the hem of my shawl bored out of my mind. Finally after what feels like forever, she calls the fighting students. Aeloria steps forward with other students. People clap then Mrs. Avrail excuses them to their seats. Aeloria walks over. “Finally.” I mutter. She looks up. “Well it’s time for our classes.
