Summary

He was a slave in her father’s kingdom. A man who is silent, obedient, and far too convincing to be real. Behind his calm eyes burned a fire that refused to bow. She was the king’s daughter. A princess of the kingdom, serene, beautiful, and lost in the quiet comfort of her own world, unaware of the cruelty her peace was built upon. When their eyes met, something unspoken stirred. Love bloomed where deceit had already taken root. When the truth rose, it did not whisper- it burned. Her heart. Her home. Her kingdom.

Glimpses

I still remember that day, as clearly as if it were carved into my mind. The first time I saw him, standing by the edge of the lake. The sun caught on the curve of his shoulders and the lines of his chest, and water slid slowly down his strong, yet lean body, glistening like molten silver. His hair, damp and slightly long, clung to his neck, dark and unruly, framing him in a way that made it impossible to look away.

I tried, with great care, to lift my gaze toward his face, but he kept it slightly lowered, as though deliberately shielding himself. I do not remember the chirping of birds or the rustle of leaves around me; all that existed was him. My pulse raced, every thought swallowed by the sight of his form, the way the water traced his skin.

Slowly, he brushed his hair back with a careless grace, tilting his head just enough for me to catch the brilliance of his eyes. They were startlingly blue, clear as the summer sky, yet sharp, commanding, and alive with a quiet fire. I felt as if they could pierce through my very soul, and I shivered under the intensity.

Before I realized, he had moved closer. His height towered over mine, and now, in that moment, his face was calm, almost serene, yet utterly compelling. I could feel the faint droplets of water falling from him, landing near me, brushing my skin as if by some unspoken design.

He extended his hand toward me. My breath caught. I debated lifting my own hand, hesitant, my body trembling with anticipation, but just as I moved, his gaze shifted slightly aside, and he walked past me instead.

Disappointment washed over me, a flush of embarrassment creeping up my cheeks, even though he never looked directly at my face. I tried to gather my composure, to master my trembling heart. But the memory of him, of that presence, of the unspoken promise in his eyes - left me utterly powerless.

She had long mastered the art of controlling her emotions, a skill honed to perfection.

She felt a quiet gratitude for it, knowing it shielded the vulnerable, desperate self within.

No one could ever glimpse the trembling, exposed heart she kept carefully hidden.
