Jamie's POV

I was helping out a girl with her locker. She always had trouble figuring out her locker combination. "What's the combination?" I asked.

"10, 7, 5," she replied.

I got the lock off her locker and opened it for her. "Here you go," I said.

"Thanks so much!" The girl exclaimed, her ocean, blue eye glittering. "You're such a cool cat, you know that?"

"I aim to please!" I chuckled. "What's your name?"

"I'm Roxanne, what's yours?"

"I'm Jamie!"

"Nice to meet you, Jamie!" Roxanne said. "Maybe, we sit together at lunch?"

"Sure!" I beamed. "Steak and cheese grinders are on the menu for today!"

"Yummy!" Roxanne said. "Well, see ya around, Jamie, I have to get my butt to Science!"

"Bye!" I waved. I grabbed my history book out of my locker, and went to my History class with Mr. Morris.

"Attention, class!" Mr. Morris said. "We will be going to Mt. Vernon tomorrow."

"Where George Washington lived!" I said.

"Correct, Jamie!" Mr. Morris said. "You're a smart girl! Very intelligent and well educated!"

"History is boring," scoffed Damian.

"If you find my class boring, you can go to the principal's office," said Mr. Morris. "Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes," said Damian.

"As you all know, Virginia is known as the Mother Of Presidents," Mr. Morris explained. "Sometime in the near future, we will visit Monticello in Charlottesville."

"Where Thomas Jefferson lived!" I said.

"Girl, what would I do without you!" Mr. Morris chuckled.

"I should be a historian!" I said.

"Absolutely!" Mr. Morris nodded.

Damien was green with envy at my intelligence. He stared me down like a hawk about to kill an unsuspecting rabbit. He recently moved here from Maryland. He has very little knowledge on Virginia's history and it's people.

It was now lunchtime, and I walked towards the cafeteria. I got in line where I saw Roxanne. "Hey, pal!" I said.

"Hey, Jamie!" She said. "It's good to see you again!"

"Likewise!" I said. We got our lunch trays, and a carton of chocolate milk, and sat down in the cafeteria, with the usual ambiance of chatter. "I'm going to Mt. Vernon tomorrow."

"A school trip?" Roxanne asked.

"Mm hmm, I nodded, while taking a bite of my steak and cheese grinder.

"That's awesome!" Roxanne said, eating her steak and cheese grinder.

"What do you like to do in your spare time?" I asked.

"Play piano, and make YouTube videos," said Roxanne, drinking her chocolate milk. "You?"

"I like to read and write," I replied. "I write stories on Wattpad. "They're mostly stories about me in a dungeon! I like to pretend a lot, heh!"

"Cool, I want to read them!" Roxanne said. "Can we exchange phone numbers?"

"Sure!" I said. "My number is 703-371-9971!"

"Mine is 703-366-7778!" Roxanne said.

We got each other's phone numbers. Lunchtime was now over, and we both discarded our trays, and we went our separate ways.
