Chapter 1
Chapter 1: The First Kick
Lina Martinez had always found solace on the soccer field. From the moment she first kicked a ball at age five, she knew that her life would revolve around the game. Growing up in a quaint town where sports were more than just a pastime—they were a way of life—she dreamed of one day playing for a renowned team, maybe even professionally.
At seventeen, her dreams felt closer than ever. She had just been selected to join her high school’s varsity team, a huge step up from her neighborhood games with friends. Her dedication was unmatched, and her skills were improving every day. But more than her talent, it was her passion that made her stand out.
Her first practice with the team was nerve-wracking. The field was buzzing with energy, and the coach’s whistle blew sharply. Lina was eager to prove herself, but she was also aware of the eyes on her—especially one pair that seemed to shine brighter than the others.
That pair belonged to Ethan Carter, the team’s captain. Ethan was tall, athletic, with a confident smile that often made others feel at ease. His reputation for being an incredible player was matched only by his charisma. As he watched her struggle with a penalty shot, he approached with a playful smirk.
“Need some help?” Ethan asked, his voice warm but teasing.
Lina looked up, cheeks flushing. “Yeah, I just can’t seem to get it right.”
Ethan stepped beside her, demonstrating the correct form, guiding her foot, and offering encouraging words. His touch was light, but the effect on her was anything but. When she finally managed to score, Ethan clapped loudly, grinning.
“See? Not so hard once you get the hang of it,” he said, his eyes glinting with pride.
From that moment, a silent connection sparked between them. Their conversations grew longer, their laughs more frequent. On and off the field, they felt an unspoken bond forming—one that neither of them dared to fully acknowledge yet.
