~PROLOGUE~

Colours.

Wonderful things, they are. A single colour can convey emotion, personality and feeling. But what would happen if no colours existed?

I live in Lilataus, a country in the middle of the Sixth Channel and directly east of Ranhlaw, the nation of bright colour and passion. Our two kingdoms were once unified until thirteen years ago when all colour faded from our once vibrant yet wintry country. Some say that Ranhlaw had stolen our colour, others claim it was divine intervention. The depletion of pigmentation wasn't sudden; first, the purple hues twisted into a dull grey, then the formerly beloved blue washed out. Slowly and surely, all colour had transformed into shades of black, grey and white; even the serene sky around our country felt lifeless and dispassionate. Lilataus fell into a state of depression and anarchy, and I have been hiding from the manic, colour-starved people all my life who should have been the once-peaceful citizens my family ruled over.

But now, on the dawn of my sweet seventeenth, I would bring colour back to my poor, innocent people.

Revenge would taste sweet, sweeter than anything I have ever tasted.
