Alone and Fractured

Summary

I’ve always been alone. I don’t mind the quiet. I don’t mind the comfort of my own. But now? I could never be alone again. The fractures, they always followed me wherever I went. Endlessly to the edge of each universe I ran, yet they chased me. She floated from one universe to the next, looking for something. A sign, maybe? That she was supposed to belong in one of the millions of worlds, perhaps. Or that she was even supposed to exist. She didn't have or want anything. A family, a home? She didn't understand what those meant. She was nobody. That was until she met them. The fractures. And her world... exploded.

Prologue

She didn’t have a name. She didn’t even have a body. She was... nothing. Not even a being. Just a sort of consciousness. She floated across universes. Never stopping. Never bothering with each new world she encountered. Just... travelling. Ceaselessly.

She knew nothing or no one. Yet she had a small sense of self. At the very least, she knew she was a she. She didn’t know how, but that was something very certain about herself. She was quiet and observant. She also preferred worlds without intelligent beings. Humans, elves, dwarves, vampires, gods... All of them tired her.

The most important thing she knew about herself was that she was alone. Never had she met someone like her. She had no family, no friends, nothing to call home. She was completely and utterly alone in every world, every universe she happened into. Never had she thought to change this. It was how she’d always been. And that’s how she’d liked it. At least, that’s what she thought.

Of course, this all changed. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be a story to tell, would there?

Enter the fracture that changed her life and altered her reality.
