Other species

It was cold and storming. A massive, dark object crashed through an open field. In the distance, through the wooded land, an old house sat, its porch light comes on. A man stepped out with a shotgun in hand, scanning his surroundings as the porch boards creaked beneath his feet. He moved onto the grass, raising the gun. The man spoke in a gruff tone.

Man: Who’s out there?

He looked around, ready to fire at any moment.

Man: Come out!

He walked deeper into the woods, stopping when he spotted two dark figures staring in his direction. Two pairs of glowing white orbs where their eyes would be can be seen shining like wildlife in the night. He guessed they were teenagers using some kind of light device. He raised his gun, aiming at them.

Man: I’m going to have to ask you to leave the premises. You are trespassing—leave now or I will shoot.

The two beings stared at him, he began to feel that something was off. A faint swish along the windows, paired with a soft, high-pitched, wooping-like sound, came from their direction. The man stepped closer, still aiming his gun.

Man: I will not ask again

He began to get nervous about them. They moved closer. He pulled the trigger. A strange, low screech echoed, like an elk’s call twisted into something demonic sound can be heard from thier direction. They flee into the woods. The man fell back and stood up with fear.

Man: Whst the hell is that?

The man paniced as he rush off back home.

Earlier that day...

A room was shown with a bed and a nightstand. On the nightstand sat a phone and a pair of glasses. The alarm sounded goes off on the phone. A hand reached from the bed and silencing it. A girl in her early twenties name Charlotte sat up with a stretch she then put on her glasses, and got out of bed.

In another room, a bed held a large lump under the covers. A calm, sweet voice from Charlotte calls from afar.

Charlotte: Cooper… Cooper…. Cooper!

The person under the covers tumbled onto the floor. The girl stepped into the room.

Charlotte: Cooper, time to get up.

Cooper stand up.

Cooper: (muffled and sleepy): I’m up I’m up.

Charlotte: Come on i want to be there early on my first day.

Cooper: Oh sis,were gonna make it.

Charlotte: I know I.. I do want to look around before I start class.

Cooper: You’ll get time to look, come on lets get ready.

Cooper and charlotte steps out side heading to a black 1967 Chevrolet Impala. Charlotte get into the passenger seat as Cooper gets into the driver seat. The car roared to life the car and drive off.

Cooper: ycome on guys let’s go off to classou feel a little nervous?

Charlotte: Yeah, a little.

Cooper: come on guys let’s go off to classYour gonna do just fine little sis.

They arrived and parked the car. They stepped out to see a massive building. From outside was many college students passing by going by their day.

Charlotte: So many people everywhere, i would have never guest i would finally step into a college life.

Cooper: Yep, and the best part is you dont have worry about the bells.

Charlotte let out a little laugh.

Charlotte:yeah

Cooper turn to and spotted his friends from a far.

Cooper: Oh, look there’s my friends! Over there com on.

Charlotte: coming.

They joined a group of four guys in their twenties. Their names were Jake, Cody, Rubin, and Marcos.

Cooper: Hey guys, guess whos became a collage student.

Charlotte: Hey guys

The guys: Hey charlotte.

A girl in her twenties, with glasses runs towards, the crew.

Amy: You’re here! Finally!

Cody: Hey cutie, didn’t know you were friends with Charlotte.

Amy turns and looks at Cody with irritation.

Amy: Cody, again stop flirting with me.

Amy turns back and looks at charlotte.

Amy: If he messes with you , come to me. Goodbye, guys.

Amy looks directly at Cody.

Amy: oh and bye Cody.

She said with the annoyed tone. The girls walk off as the boys watched them leave.

Cody: Isn’t she something?

Cooper laughed.

Cooper: come on guys let’s head off to class.

Cut to science class as Charlotte and Amy sit at a table with glass bottles.

Professor: Welcome to science class everyone one.

Amy: This is going to be fun with you around!

After three hours...

Professor: Ok class were gonna end it here, you dont have to go home, but you cant stay here.

The girls pack up and head out the classroom they head to the cafeteria. Charlotte was amazed at the cafeteria’s size and smells. It had a few fast food stations and a small coffee shop.

Amy: Welcome to the cafeteria!

Charlotte: It’s huge, and it smells amazing!

Amy: I know right.

Amy: What would you like?

Charlotte: Oh you don’t have to……

Amy cut her off before she gets a chance to say more

Amy: Well I want to do it so what’s it gonna be?

Charlotte: OK, fine I’ll just get the camlearamel Frappuccino.

The girls were now sitting at the table as Charlotte had her drink, and Amy had a bag of chips with a Coke. Cooper and the boys walks up to their table.

Amy: Hey guys.

Cooper: Hey, so How’s the first day sis?

Charlotte: Really good.

Amy: Where is Jake?

Cooper: Probably out making out with his girlfriend.

Cody: That’s gonna be awesome someday.

Amy: Dream on pretty boy.

Cooper: Oh you think I’m pretty?

Amy rolls her eyes with a signs and irritation. She turns to Charlotte.

Amy: Want to hang with me at my house today?

Charlotte: Sure

Cooper: oh cool, ok you’re gonna be over there and the boys are going to chill at the house.

Charlotte let out a small laugh.

Charlotte: f f ok you have fun with that.

Later that evening...

Rain poured and thunder rumble. Inside the house, the guys sat at the couch with Mario Sunshine playing on the tv. Suddenly, the power went out.

Jake: What just happened?

Ruben: Power’s out.

They turned on their phone flashlights and scanned the house. From outside in the distance, a twisted, demonic elk-like screech echoed.

Jake: What the hell was that?

Cooper: Not for sure. Maybe some animal.

MarcosThat did not sound like some animal

I’ll check the breaker to see if i can get it back on.

As Cooper stepped outside, he spotted some movements around the trees

Cooper: Charlotte?

He flashes his light towards the direction There is no answer but he still sees movement by the trees. He got ready to go investigate Suddenly, someone stepped behind him.

Jake: cooper

Cooper jumped.

Jake: Calm down—it’s just me. You okay?

Cooper Looked back at the trees to no longer seeing movement.

Cooper: Yeah. I Thought I….. saw something over there.

Jake: Probably just natures wildlife like you said, you do live around the woods after all. Come on, let’s go inside. The lights came back on.

The boys headed to the door. Jake stepped inside, and Cooper glanced back toward the trees one more time before following, unaware that someone had been watching the house, a figure peeking from behind a tree. Viewing from the back of them.
