My last night
Part 1 – “My Last Night”
The stormy night was alive with thunder and lightning. Lia sat on her wooden rocking chair beside the fireplace, a cup of tea warming her hands against the cold. Outside the window, trees swayed violently in the wind, lit by flashes of lightning and echoed by rolling thunder.
Lia was used to this scene; she had lived alone in her unique wooden house deep in the forest for four years. “Perfect weather for reading,” she murmured to herself.
Rising to fetch a book from her personal library, she froze when a sudden, violent pounding shook the door. Whoever it was seemed determined to break it down.
Assuming it was one of the lost woodcutters, she opened the door—only to find a girl collapsing to the floor, drenched, with dark hair plastered to her face, eyes burning like coals from sheer terror, and a body trembling uncontrollably.
Lia: “Who are you? Are you okay?”
The girl clutched Lia’s dress and whispered, “Hide me… please, they’re looking for me!”
Lia quickly shut the door, heart pounding. “Who is after you?” she demanded.
The girl: “They… they are demons.”
A shiver ran down Lia’s spine, but she didn’t have time to think. She led the girl upstairs, opening an old wooden chest. “Get inside,” she said. The girl curled up within, whispering softly, “Thank you.”
