Chapter 1 - 1649

Heavy breathing and shaking hands and feet, I am in trouble with my heath as I walk down the old, dark streets of Reconstruction of Roman Sichester, 1649 and I can only hear the sound of the horses within the rain as the cold greatens. I fell off my feet and onto my knees as I was in the alleyway as I just keep my arms crossed as they turned blue and my long, blacken hair moves with the wind. I hear voices, young and old, cry’s maybe for help. I uncross my arms and put both hands on each ear as I tried to not listen. My eyes close tightly as some tears came racing out but they don’t go anywhere. Suddenly, I hear the footsteps in the puddles behind me as I quickly open my eyes wild, even though I can’t see them, I’m only sure that they are screaming of fear. I heard a gentleman’s voice as it sounds calm. “Oh dear child, what are thee in this God shaken rain?” I tried to speak but my lips and also voice was frozen with fear and cold. He kneeled down and put both hands on each of my shoulders and whispered in my right ear as I feel his warm, calm breath “Are thee sick? Come with me and I will heat thee up until she is ready to speak her lovely voice” I am truly frozen in fear as my eyes are wild. He pulls me up and he is too strong for me to stop him. I allow him to just pull me up as I am too cold to try to fight him. Even though it wasn’t far, the journey seems to take forever, he just spoke to me about his life but I paid no attention. He stops pulling me and lets go of my left shoulder which he hasn’t let go of all the way. He opens the door and there was his slave with the dark skin with short, black hair and the biggest smile I have ever seen. He stops in front of his slave and spoke “What on earth? Why are thee just standing around? GET TO WORK NOW!” My eyes widen with shock at how differently he acts with me and her. I spoke with anger as I pushed him away from me with a strong stand.

“How can thee speak to her like that? She is a person, so what if she has dark skin. She does your cooking, cleaning and God knows what else.” I look over at her and she is smiling with some tears coming to her eyes as she has never seen a white person defend her. But I still speak “You are not even human. Thee have taken her away from her home and boss her about and thee treat her so poorly” His face turned to anger as he rush to me and grab both of my hands and said

“If anyone else would have heard thee words, thee are one of us and you’re acting like one of them. I am going to teach thee a lesson. If thee do believe what she is saying, then thee will join them” Suddenly, he pushed me down to the floor and in front of the slave feet and said to both of us “I hope thee like each other, because none of thee are ever leaving this house. After this day, thee will be known as my second slave children. Now, what is your name?” I look up as the slave girl helps me stand and whispered to me.

“Thee better tell him” I looked at him, and answered reluctantly

“Linda Goldenbird”
