Chapter 1

The Coranien Statis

It had been since before anyone could remember that they had ruled. It was almost as natural as breathing for us now. It’s not that they are truly that much different than us. Across all five of the systems controlled by the Coraniens, the domain life forms are all basically the same in general shape and function. Yes, two arms, two legs, a pair of eyes in the front of one head, and all breath a mixture of oxygen those the concentration varies from system to system. No with the exception of the Torphi’s third eye on the back of their heads we are all very much the same.

The Coraniens were just natural leaders. It was in their DNA to be in control according to their leaders. Their world was the center of the cluster, our system was just a part of it. As far as we could tell must stars formed tens if not hundreds of light years away from each other. That was not the case for the Coranien Stasis Republic cluster. There were five solar systems surrounding the Coranien system. Solisor the star which Corane orbited at the center of the star cluster no more than 6 light years across at its wide part.

Twenty centuries ago, their developed magnetic field buffering that allowed their cruisers to travel nearly seven times the speed of light. Even at that speed it took almost a year one way to reach the furthest system. For that reason, after they would conquer a system, it would have a government set up, controlled by Coraniens. Protection of the system would be up to its inhabitants. They would be trained to be good fighters. It was drilled into each system during early childhood the Statis was more important than one life.

Like all conquered people the systems would from time to time try to revolt against the Statis. It would never end well for the revolters but the system was never punished as a whole. Over all the centuries it had allows been one system at a time. It was that fact that Bril Conforce was planning to change. It all started twenty years ago in the Trophi system. Truthfully the trouble was started 600 years ago during the Trophi Wars.

Trophi system was seven planets orbiting the largest of the stars in the cluster, Phi. Through only the fourth and fifth planets held in interest for the Statis. The Trophins already had manned bases on their home planets pair of moons as well as permanent settlements on the fifth world long before the Statis had reached their system. It was those facts that caused the scout forces to land one the largest moon orbiting the sixth planet. A large gas giant that had enough moons the resemble a solar system itself.

This was the third system they had set their sights on after their home system. The first and second systems had been no trouble for them at all. The life forms of the first were developing flight on their own planet and had limited capabilities of leaving its atmosphere. The first attack had destroyed their largest city and they surrender unconditionally. The second was still at a primitive level using tools made by hand and only capable of basic tacks. Their defeat could not even be called a battle. Despite the fact they were 12 ft. tall. No, they were no challenge at all for them.

The fourth system was Phi. the people here had already been a multi-planet civilization. These people would be much harder to conquer. So, they built bases on the moons of the sixth planet and started building their forces and waited for reinforcements.

The Trophins had detected the bases on the moons and planned accordingly. It was obvious that the intruders were an advanced race. They had come from deep space to land on Geost’s moons. Yet the bases had not tried to contact them in any form they could tell. The leaders on Palris, the fifth planet wanted to prepare for war. However, the leaders on Trophi believe that as they had evolved out of their violent ways. All advanced races became more peaceful as the evolved. That would explain why they had not contacted the native races when they arrived. They wanted to observe to see if they could handle contact with life forms from other planets.

That would be the fatal mistake for them. Even though them defeated the first attack once the Coraniens discovered their invasion forces had been defeated they unleashed the full force of their forces on them. The first attack had depleted the home world so much it fell quickly but the bases of Palris held out for twenty years before they too were conquered. The war was also hard on the Statis. It took them almost two hundred years to regain the forces lost. It was that fact that they used to oppress the Trophins so much.

It was written into their surrender treaty that they would wear a scarf or hat to cover their third eye. It was that the home world of the Statis had credited with their first victory. They also were scattered throughout all the systems to limit their ability join together as a force again. The later had had the opposite effect on the republic. Especially within the last two systems to be conquered.

They both had been just on the verge of sending unmanned scouts to explore what they saw in the other systems in the cluster. Being absorbed into the Statis had both advanced them and taken them further back in technologically. Both home worlds would be put to building space cruisers, but their scientists where no longer allow to try to advance their own ideas. They were to only study what the Statis wish for them to study.

It was a dangerous game they were playing. Each system was to elect representatives to travel to Corane to be part of the government over the whole of the cluster. This congress of course had no real power, but the gathering did allow ideas from each world to be exchanged. It was disbanded before Trophins ideals were shared as well. This is what was causing the sporadic uprisings. The idea, that a truly advanced society should tend to be more peaceful instead of as warlike as the Coraniens were, was spread slowly throughout the cluster.

Xeno Bunig controlled the secret shipyards on Nitux’s moon Thear. It was little more spaceport but it was the start of the only hope they had against the Statis. He had long ago been master builder at their shipyard on Jolim. Then the slavers had taken his family on a Tivas civilian ship and there was nothing to officially be done about it. That was when he first learned of the underground resistance. He had met with the secret Trophin captain and his crew to plan freeing his people from the slave colony ship. He could not go back to working for the Statis and faked his death. The treatment of the Trophi had taught them to be carefully.

In their attempt to punish the Trophi by spreading them all over the cluster they had sown the seeds of their own demise. It was not even the few they had left on Trophi who were the threat. It was the one who had blended into other worlds. They only needed a leader to show them the way. That leader might even be Bril Conforce born to a Trophi mother and a Forgusan father, all he had to do was get off this jungle covered planet. He had never thought he would leave Forgus but fate had a plan of its own.
