Chapter 1: The Wasteland
The Wasteland
The man’s name was Lucas, and he had been wandering the wastelands for what felt like an eternity. His weathered face was hidden behind a ragged scarf, and his eyes grew distant as he took in the desolate landscape before him. Everywhere he looked he saw destruction, crumbling structures and the remains of cities that had once been teeming with life. The sky was a permanent haze of yellow, a product of the devastating war that had left the planet in ruins.
Although Lucas had become used to the sight of ruin, he could never quite get accustomed to the silence that had followed the end of the war. The deafening roar of machine had once been the background noise of life, and now he was left with nothing but the tiny voice in the back of his head, guiding him on his journey.
Finally, he beckoned the figure that had been pacing him for hours, the robotic ally he had constructed from scraps of metal. It’s bright blue eyes glowed as it came to a stop beside him, sparks generating from it’s exposed frame. He turned to the robot and spoke: “At least I have you”
