Suspenseful and intriguing
"It may take a while, but if you take it on, the book will hook you very deeply. The characters are probably well-known to you, but Hollywood versions are not the only one. If you enjoy Vikings, believe me, this book is for you! And before you roll your eyes at its version, don't assume Norse history is fully uncontroversial. Astrid is a strong woman and her take on turbulent environment it refreshing. She is smart, calculating and careful. But the world has other plans for her. I look forward to seeing how she navigates these difficulties and challenges, but what I love most - I have no idea what it will be. Most books are predictable, this is NOT! The writing style is enjoyable, smart and simple. #ICBC"

"The writing is beautiful, and the characters feel vivid and well developed. Astrid in particular immediately caught my attention, and I’m really curious to see where her story goes. The plot is intriguing, especially with the deal with Loki throwing an unexpected complication into the story. Now I’m very curious to see what happens to Astrid and Ivar after that and where it leaves them. The historical setting is also really well done, and I’m looking forward to seeing how everything unfolds."
An immersive opening
"Astrid is a well defined character from the get go. Her chemistry with both Ivar and Loki is clear. The dialogue is sharp, and while obviously modernized, is appropriate. The author's technical writing skills are evident, resulting in a straightforward read. The pacing feels reasonable, especially given the way the story hits so hard in the opening chapter. The structure of the first chapters is arranged such that each leaves a question unanswered - which means continuing to read is the only way to sate the curiosity. Excellent use of hooks! I look forward to seeing this through to completion. "

"Lemme start by saying, this has single-handedly made me realise I like the Nordic/Viking setting! It was a great choice to place the plot of this story there! Every single character has a role to play! Nobody's filler matterial! Neither is any chapter! We start moving and never stop! This journey is already wild and I suspect things will only get worse (better)! In case anyone does not like to read sums, I will forego talking about the actual plot! I would hate to spoil stuff for you! Just know this: From the descriptions to the dialogue to the developing plot, this story can and WILL captivate you!"
I'm still pouting over the cliffhanger
"I absolutely devoured The Blood Price. Astrid and Ivar's story kept me binge-reading for three straight days because I needed to know what was going to happen next. I loved watching Astrid's transformation throughout the story. She goes through unimaginable circumstances but gradually becomes a powerful and feared leader in her own right. At the same time, the secrets between her and Ivar take their toll, and I found myself equally invested in their relationship and everything happening around them. There were so many moments when I wanted to reach into the story and shake these characters, which is probably a pretty good indication of how invested I became in them. And then... that ending. I'm still pouting over the cliffhanger! I reached the last page completely prepared for the confrontation I'd been waiting for, only to discover I'm apparently going to have to wait for the next book. I suppose that's the price I pay for becoming this invested. I loved it, though. If a story can keep me reading for days and leave me this annoyed that there aren't more pages, it did its job. #ICBC"

"This story hits the ground running with sex and violence and then gets into supernatural stuff and Loki being his cunning and devious self. I don't do historical romance but with the fantasy element, I may be interested. Certainly the first two chapters (which is all I've read) are thrilling. #icbc"

For a historical romantasy set in the Viking era, the story is extremely readable and easy to follow. The plot is grounded in real issues of the time period and handles disability representation gracefully and respectfully. I would definitely read again, and am eager for more content from this series. "
A Clever, High-Stakes Reimagining with Incredible Atmospheric Depth
"This story is a thoroughly engrossing blend of historical lore, dark romance, and mythological intrigue. Astrid is a brilliantly written protagonist—unapologetically pragmatic, shaped by a harsh world, and driven by an intense survival instinct. Her dark, magnetic chemistry with Ivar is instantly captivating, and the introduction of Loki as a manipulative, charismatic catalyst adds a fantastic layer of psychological tension to the narrative. The prose is sharp, evocative, and breathes life into every scene. My only minor critique lies in the pacing of the magical elements. Introducing Loki so early and having him show Astrid an explicit vision of her future with Ivar—including their children and long life together—felt a bit too revealing. While it effectively establishes her hunger for legacy, it inadvertently diffuses some of the organic tension and mystery surrounding her fate and her ultimate dynamic with Ivar. A bit more ambiguity regarding what she was bargaining for might have heightened the suspense. Nevertheless, the complex themes of ambition and the hidden costs of our choices make this an incredibly strong and memorable read."
