Chapter 1: Awakening

Awakening

You wake up in a cold, dimly lit chamber. The air is heavy with a metallic scent, and the sound of distant machinery echoes through the walls. As you slowly sit up, your head throbbing, you try to gather your bearings. A holographic display flickers to life in front of you, projecting a message in an alien language.

Feeling a sense of urgency, you search the room for any clues. On a nearby table, you find a datapad with a single icon illuminated. When you touch it, the message on the holographic display changes to a translation of the previous message: ‘Greetings, traveler. You are aboard the Vytalennix, an ancient extraterrestrial vessel that traverses the vastness of space. To escape the labyrinth of our ship and return to Earth, you must prove your worthiness through a series of trials. Choose your path wisely, for every decision matters.’

Heika van Walderveen: I had to get used to the style. It’s a lot of switching and getting back into the story of the characters. Also the different timelines were a bit confusing in the beginning. But once you’re used to it, it’s really quite original. The plot is good, but it’s only book 1 (out of 3), but so far so good...
