Summary

He was hunting revenge. She was in his crossfire. They told themselves the fire between them was just hatred. That the pull was strategy. Necessity. Nothing more. They were never meant to meet… until survival forces them together, hatred ignites desire, and protecting her becomes the deadliest temptation of all. Somewhere along the path of revenge, lines blurred. Anger turned intimate. Loyalty turned dangerous. And the one rule they never meant to break was the one already shattered—because they weren’t supposed to fall in love, and now revenge is no longer the only thing at stake.

Prologue

The rain fell like shards of glass—sharp, relentless—slamming into the courtyard stone as if trying to erase every memory it had ever absorbed.

Ishaan Malhotra stood beneath the flickering glow of a broken lamp, his coat soaked through, his pulse thundering louder than the storm above. Years had passed—years of distance, silence, and carefully buried ghosts. He had believed the past was sealed.

He was wrong.

Aarohi Mehra stepped out of the darkness like a drawn blade—precise, unforgiving, impossible to ignore.

Her eyes locked onto his at once. No shock. No hesitation. Only hatred—pure and burning, a fire time had failed to extinguish.

For one suspended heartbeat, the world held still.

Then she spoke.

“Even after all these years,” she said quietly, her voice controlled but razor-edged, “you’re still the same, Ishaan Malhotra.”

Ishaan didn’t move. Didn’t blink. His jaw tightened as he met her stare.

“Aarohi Mehra,” he replied, his tone cool, dangerously steady.

“What are you doing here?”

Her lips pressed into a thin line as she stepped closer, rain clinging to her like armor.

“Seeing you here,” she said sharply, “don’t you think that answers your question?”

“You turned my life into a living hell. And you know exactly what that day meant.”

Thunder split the sky.

Ishaan’s shoulders stiffened—not at the sound, but at her words. They struck deeper than any blade.

“It wasn’t cruelty,” he said, his voice low. “It was the truth.”

“And the truth is poison—for everyone. Especially for you.”

The air between them snapped.

Not with lightning.

With memory.

Aarohi’s eyes darkened, fury tightening every line of her face.

“The truth?” she repeated, her voice trembling with restrained rage as she closed the distance between them.

“You don’t get to speak of truth when you hid it that night. When you chose to lie—when you chose the worst lie of all.”

Ishaan held his ground.

For a moment, his teeth clenched before he spoke again—not in defense, but under the weight of something he had carried for years.

“You wouldn’t understand,” he said quietly.

“That night… what happened… there was a reason.”

Her gaze burned into him, unflinching, merciless.

“A reason?” she echoed, her voice flat, lethal.

“All I carried in my heart was hatred. Hatred for you.”

The rain intensified, drumming against stone in a relentless rhythm, as though urging the past to surface.

Aarohi stood before him, drenched but unbroken—eyes blazing, jaw set, every muscle rigid with fury and buried pain. She didn’t look away.

Neither did he.

But there was something different in Ishaan’s eyes now.

Not anger.

Not fear.

Something heavier. Guarded. Burdened.

Like a man standing at the edge of a truth he had spent years running from.

For a long, suffocating moment, neither of them breathed.

The night seemed to wait—holding its breath for the next strike, the next truth that could either destroy them…

…or seal their fate forever.

Thunder rolled in the distance.

And between them lingered one brutal certainty:

They were never meant to meet again.

They were never meant to forgive.

And yet—

The fire between them was far from dead.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters.
