Prologue
"Dear Diary, Do you believe in the unthinkable? Beasts with sharp, piercing claws, with a long, scaly back. The glowing eyes I saw were mesmerizing, even terrifying. There I was, stopped in my tracks, like a deer in the headlights. Beast walking among me, looking for me. I was the hunted prey. I am not afraid. I am more than just afraid; I have been sucked into a world I did not want. Here I write, cold and hungry. In a glorious golden bedroom, rather than the one I had before, soaked with the Tez-rail-ians blood. What has happened to me diary? Was I meant to be here? Is this my story to tell?"
I raised my pencil to my lips and looked over to see Alex playing with the flames rippling in the fireplace. He waves his hand back and forth, smiling slightly. For a brief moment, he appeared happy. I knew his happiness would not last long. He was happy then, but now it's survival for him.
His playful smile gave his cheeks a rosy color. His curly hair falling to his face covered his blue eyes. Tilting his head, he swept his bangs to the side.
The tip of my pencil rolled on my lips as I thought deeply about how to keep my brother safe. Was I doing the right thing? Was he old enough to realize our lives were in danger from the Tezraliens? Questions started to fill my head.
A sudden snap came from my pencil brushed against my bottom lip. Letting the pencil fall into my palm, it snapped in two. I frowned. This was my fate. Placing the bottom half of the pencil to the side, my diary remained open. I trailed my eyes down to the part where I had stopped writing. My finger slid over the crease of my journal as I placed the broken pencil against the paper and wrote.
"Diary, I will not give up. My fate is set in stone, and there is nothing I can do about it. Maybe, just maybe, this is a fate that can be good."
