Music In The Sea
I lay awake in wonder. Confusion swamps me! What is that?
I can feel a vibration! In my ears?
I reach up and touch my ears. As I cover them, it fades! Then when I move my hands away, it returns.
I am becoming more positive, that it is a sound! But how can that be possible?
My heart is beating fast!
Am I frightened, or excited? I can’t tell!
Sitting, I swing my legs from the bed. Placing my bare feet on the floor, I stand!
Is it coming from beyond the door? I walk toward the door, sliding it opens a couple of inches.
It is clearer now, so I open the door further.
The waves are moving as usual, in their silent slide. The cool sea breeze, moves across my face, ruffling my hair.
What could it be? And where is it coming from?
A vague memory from my early childhood, flashes in my mind!
Could it be music? I struggle to describe it! It is sometimes slow and sweet, sometimes fast and spiky! The sweetness reminds me of, cold chocolate milk. Something that lingers on the tongue, an enjoyment that lasts. The sharpness is more like a pin prick. A quick pain, that goes away quickly!
I am intrigued! I want to experience more! I want it to last!
It has faded again! Where is it?
I leave the room, walking out into the night air. The moon is high in the clear sky! The stars seem large tonight. The beach is illuminated!
If I was a romantic, I would describe this as a perfect night.
I descend the steps, counting as I go! 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 7 steps, my favorite number! Descending to my favorite place.
I push my toes into the cool sand! Feeling the comfort seep into me! Then I wander to the waters edge.
The waves sweep in, covering my ankles in bubbles. I feel them pop against my toes, then I stand still and concentrate!
It happens again. Entreating, Mesmerizing, Beautiful!
My Mind tells me it is Music! And I love it!
It is drifting with the breeze, from the sea, into the shore.
My eye’s scan the horizon.
I spot a figure, standing in the shallows. A man! He has shimmering silver skin. Water droplets, sparkle like diamonds on his bare torso.
He holds a thin silver pipe, against his lips. A Flute?
So that is, the source of the Music?
But who is he, the Ethereal looking man?
I am afraid he will see me.
I turn and run back to the house.
Heart pounding, Head ringing! Frightened!
I close the door, Shutting myself in! Shutting it out! Shutting him out!
Back to my world of Silence!
Now I am safe!
