chapter 1: Introduction
Hi, I’m Phoenix Spade and I live in the Lost Cities, an extravagant, beautiful, clean world with a council of Elves as its rulers. Though the Lost Cities may seem perfect, it’s most definitely not. The council has unfair rules, and they lie to stay in control. On top of that, witnesses of the unfairness are often social outcasts which I don’t give a thought to. I have had some valid crashouts about it. The one I remember the most is during a splotching match I got mad because my opponent was teasing me about my dumb family. I was losing the match but then I got so mad I lost control, pushed the splotcher too hard and it landed on his head, resulting in me not being able to participate in PE for a whole week. Why not give me something I won’t care about? Some other students don’t care if they get detention and they don’t get a class they actually like taken away. It had even been a good three weeks since I’d hurt anyone. As you can probably tell from that whole thing, I’m not that fond of the Council, which is why I also belong to the Black Swan, a dying out rebel group trying to make peace with the Council and their unfair rules as the human researcher and specialist. I also go on special missions in the Forbidden Cities (AKA Humanland by my boyfriend Keefe Scencen). My Mother and Father sort of hate me and my golden boy younger brother Gorman pretends to. I promise that I’m a good person. That’s why I’m usually in the tree house I built (Fireflight) or in Alluveterre (a Black Swan hideout) with my gramps who is known as Mr. Forkle, the leader of the Black Swan. My few friends’ parents sometimes let me spend the night at their house when the drama is super bad since my family doesn‘t know that I go to Alluveterre and I can’t spend the night. Why do my parents not take a particular liking to me, you ask? They hate my non-elflike confidence, fearlessness and that I’m fine with not fitting in with the rest of the Elves. I also have the most untrusted ability, a shade which means I control shadows and the forbidden ability a pyrokinetic which means I control fire. I’m sure you are bored with my life explanation by now, so let’s get to the real story.
