Des millénaires plus tard, cette histoire n'est plus qu'une légende et à Revanor, Nyssandra n'est qu'une orpheline parmi tant d'autres... jusqu'au jour où une faille s'ouvre au cœur de la capitale. Nyssandra assiste alors à un événement que personne d'autre ne semble voir : la Gardienne de Maïvalon, utilisant un pouvoir qui n'aurait jamais dû exister. Surveillée par la Gardienne depuis cet incident, Nyssandra comprend qu'un secret ancien sommeille dans l'ombre de sa nation. Un secret lié aux Enfants de la Nuit. Aux racines qui rattachent Maïvalon au monde. Et aux ténèbres qui cherchent à les briser.
