3:14 AM.

Arohi Kashyap leans back, the sound of her neck cracking echoing in the silence. On her screen, a frozen frame of Jeon Jungkook is zoomed in to 400%. She is currently scrubbing out a micro-expression—a sharp wince of physical agony he’d hidden from 50,000 screaming fans, but couldn’t hide from her lens.

“You’re deleting the only real thing in that video.”

The voice is a low, rasping vibration that crawls up her spine. Arohi doesn’t scream; she doesn’t have the energy for fear. She turns her chair slowly.

Jungkook is leaning against the doorframe, his hair damp from sweat, his leather jacket smelling of midnight rain and expensive tobacco. He looks exhausted. He looks broken.He looks human.

“I’m deleting a technical error, Mr. Jeon,” Arohi’s voice is like a shard of glass. “The ‘Golden Maknae’ doesn’t feel pain. He doesn’t stumble. My job is to make sure the world never realizes you’re made of flesh and bone.”

Jungkook moves. His heavy boots are silent on the carpet as he invades her space, stopping only when he is looming over her, his hand gripping the back of her chair. The heat radiating from his body is a direct insult to the air-conditioned chill she lives in.

“And what if I want them to see it?”he whispers, leaning down until his lips are inches from her ear.“What if I’m tired of being a ‘product’ you polish every night?”

Arohi doesn’t flinch. She looks him dead in the eye, her gaze landing on the very bruise she was just about to edit out. “Then you’ve hired the wrong woman. I don’t care about your soul, Jungkook. I care about the timeline. Now, move.You’re blocking my light."

A dark, dangerous smirk tugs at his mouth. His grip on her chair tightens, knuckles turning white.

“You’re a liar, Arohi Kashyap. You’ve spent more time staring at my face than anyone in this country. You know the rhythm of my breath better than my own mother. Tell me...”

He leans closer, his voice dropping to a dangerous, velvety silk.

“When you’re alone at night, do you still see me in pixels? Or are you starting to realize that no amount of editing can crop me out of your head?”

Arohi’s heart hammers a frantic, violent rhythm against her ribs, but her hand on the mouse remains steady.

“2TB of data can be deleted with one click, Mr. Jeon. Don’t test how fast I can forget you.”
