Chapter 1 The night she met death
The night smelled like smoke and rain.
Sadie stood at the edge of Fleunce, the town that was supposed to give her peace.
Instead, it gave her silence.
Too much silence.
The kind that presses against your chest…
The kind that reminds you of everything you’ve lost.
Her parents were gone.
Burned alive in a fire meant for revenge.
And she survived.
That was her curse forest behind her new home was always covered in mist.
People called it cursed.
Sadie didn’t believe in curses.
She believed in pain.
And pain had already found her.
That night, unable to breathe inside her own thoughts, she walked into the forest.
Step by step.
Deeper into the unknown.
Until she saw him.
A man.
Standing near the lake.
Dressed in black.
Still. Silent.
Deadly.
And at his feet
A body.
No struggle.
No chaos.
Just blood on the lips… and broken glass in a lifeless hand.
Too calm.
Too wrong.
Sadie should have left.
She didn’t.
“You saw too much.”
His voice was low. Dangerous.
Her heart pounded, but her feet didn’t move.
Instead, she stepped closer.
Into darkness.
Into him.
And that was the moment her life stopped being hers.
