Whispers Between Open Seams Book 1: The Cult

Winter’s cold, with its blizzards and snowfall, remained a distant fear, out beyond the cabin, where a mother watched her daughter play with two dolls by the warm light of a fire. The girl paid no mind to the sound of the night winds outside; her mother, meanwhile, held in her hands an old book, so ancient it looked as though it might crumble at any moment. Seeing the book, the girl stopped playing; overcome with curiosity, she went to her mother, who, upon seeing her, opened the book.

“Once upon a time, there was a kingdom far, far away. A kingdom where men and gods lived together and shared their knowledge in harmony.

“That kingdom was vast, its capital a city of gold and silver as far as the eye could see; its great towers of white marble, like clouds, always welcomed travelers from other realms.

“In it lived three heroes from another world, brought forth by the gods to wage a great war against evil beings led by a powerful witch, who, wielding her great power, attacked the kingdom of silver and gold. The heroes fought for thousands of years, until they defeated her in a battle where the magic of good and evil clashed with all their strength.

“Those heroes were a young maiden of noble heart and powerful faith. Her kindness was the light that illuminated the hearts of the warriors, forever lifting their spirits with her presence.

“The other was a king of noble heart, ever faithful to his people, who, with his magic sword, led the armies of the kingdom of gold and silver.

“The last was a cunning and mighty mage who, drawing on the knowledge of her own world, was able to defeat the wicked witch in a duel of wits.

“These three heroes from another world were called: The King, The Mage, and The Maiden. They guided the world toward the peace we know and enjoy today, but that peace came at a cost: the sacrifice of the King and the Maiden, who gave their souls to keep the evil of the past from ever returning.”
