Prologue
NamSoo
Run.That was the only word on my mind as the autumn leaves were crushed under my quick footfalls. The world went by in a blur.Yes, I’m running. Why?Well, it started about three months ago, when we first moved to my new (now old) home in Sorrowood, England. I’m not British, I was born in Busan, South Korea. We, my family and I, moved here because of Father’s stupid job.Me(NamSoo), Jay(JungIn) and Harmony(JungWoo) , didn’t want to move. We’d have to memorize a new village by sight without colour to help.Since we were born, Jay could only see red and blue, whereas me and Harmony perceived everything as a colourless piece of artwork – all black, white and shades in-between. It wasn’t fun since people would ask us what colour they should use in art but when we picked one out, they’d comment on it grimacing and ask us if we were blind. When we’d explain that we couldn’t see colour, they’d laugh as if we were telling a joke.
Three months earlier…
Now we’re here in England and already I hate it, it’s raining as we pull up in front of the manor in which we’d be staying. On the plus side, we have our own floors. However, I’d be sharing with Jay as I used to do in Busan. We were quite used to each other’s presence at night.
“Annyeong, Nam-Soo?” Jay asked, giving me a questionable look.
“Ne Jay?” I asked. We tended to speak in Korean since it was our native language however we did know English well enough to have a conversation in it.
“You coming to our floor?” He asked quite timidly.
“Ne,” I whispered, following him unsurely to the top floor, which was our shared floor. I was fearful that it would collapse under us every time I set a foot down.
When I saw the huge room that me and Jay were to share during our stay here, my eyes widened in delight.
The wallpaper was made with neatly ripped music sheets and book pages, everything me and Jay loved combined into a room. If me and Jay were a room, then this would be it.
“Like it, little sis?” He asked, grinning at me way too cheekily.
“Ne, but I still want to go back to Busan.” I pout adorably like I always did when I wanted something.
“Aigoo, gwiyomi,” he laughed happily.
“Anieyo.” I whine like a child.
“You’re too cute for your own good!” He chuckled, enveloping me into a big bear hug.
“Damn you Jay,” I huff.
“You’ll never stay mad at me. I bought you tickets to one of those groups you like,” he laughed.
“What group?” I ask excitedly.
" There to make your heart throb,” He hinted with hand motions.
“HeartThrob!?” I screech with surprise and happiness.
“That’s the one!“He laughed and then yawned.
“We need to get some sleep before tomorrow.” I say, my voice soft all of a sudden.
“Yep”He murmured, getting into the bed that blended perfectly with his fluffy hair, he told me that his hair was blue as was his bed sheets,so much so that I was completely unable to define what was pillow and what was his hair. I changed into my warm pajamas before snuggling into the other bed, which had extremely comfortable sheets.
I was rudely awakened the next morning by someone jumping on me. My immediate reaction was to slap them in the face. I was one of those people who should never be woken up abruptly except in extremely dangerous situations.
“But the concert’s in an hour!” Two voices whined, one masculine and one feminine. My older twin brother and sister. I opened one eye before pushing myself up to find it was five in the afternoon, nothing new there in all honesty.
I shooed the two of them out of the room and went to get dressed into an oversized grey (but according to Jay, it was ‘cyan blue’) sweater that read ‘Almost Famous’ in black. Famous for what you ask? Well, I’m actually a rapper. I’ve won a few shows for rapping and gained quite a few fans even though I never asked for them. My stage name is ‘InkSpell’ after my favourite book. I finished getting ready, putting on pale, natural make up before running down to the ground floor to get something quick to eat before going to the concert with Jay and Harmony. We’re off to see one of the best k-pop groups that I know!
When we got there, we went to our allocated seats and waited for the concert to begin. There wasn’t a really big crowd but apparently there’s not a lot of k-pop fans in England. When the group came on stage, I cheered with all of my heart. By the end of the show, I had killed my voice and was falling asleep so Jay picked me up and took me home, laying me in bed gently with a sigh.
Jay
I stared softly at my youngest sister, all grey apart from her blood red hair. If her eyes were open, they’d be the brightest sapphire blue ever. These are the only two colours that I was capable of seeing. It’s not fun, but still better than my sisters, I guess as they can’t see any colour at all except for monochrome. Well, Harmony says she can see colour, but she focuses on another place and sees that place in colour. She only got that ability a year ago so it’s still a bit strange.
I can’t help now but think about tomorrow when Nam-Soo has to go to public school for the first time in two years. She won’t fit in at all and I might only see her at break. She struggles with English and I often have to translate to English for her since she gets frustrated easily if she can’t get it. She would just walk out of school in Busan if that happened. I quietly started to sing Eternity-VIXX as I felt that it suited her rather well. It should be the song that played when she walked into any room.
The next morning I gently woke Nam-Soo up, dodging the slap that she aimed at my face.
“Time for school,” I murmur gently in my Busan satoori.
“’Kay,” She huffed, getting up and going to get her uniform on before she went, well fell downstairs, colouring the air with a wonderful array of curses,to get her bag and went outside on her way to school. I sighed since she skipped breakfast again. I tried to push it back as I went to school with Harmony, guiding her with my limited perception of colour. The school was really crowded as we struggled to make our way to class. It turned out that me, Jung- Woo and Nam-soo had almost every class together according to our timetable. I thought that we didn’t.
We got to our first class, English, and were told to introduce ourselves. Me and Harmony managed perfectly fine, however, Nam-Soo couldn’t and introduced herself in our native language, Korean.
“A-Annyeonghaseyo, je ireum-eun Nam-Soo imnida,“She said with a very nervous smile.
