Before I could respond , his mouth crashed into mine and it wasn’t a kiss, it was a reclamation. It was heavy, bruising, and tasted like the static before a lightning strike. He was claiming my breath, my mouth, my very thoughts. My heart betrayed me instantly, hammering a frantic rhythm against my ribs, and before I could stop myself, I accidentally kissed him back. Hard.
The “Nun” didn’t just stumble; she burned. My fingers curled into the fabric of his hoodie, pulling him closer as the kiss turned into something hot and sensual..... ..I tore my mouth away, my chest heaving, and shoved against his shoulders with every ounce of strength I had left. I caught him off guard, forcing him back a step.
“Stay away from me,” I choked out, pointing a trembling finger at his chest. “I mean it, Ryder. Stay away from me until you figure out exactly what you want—and until you’re sure of it. I’m done being the girl you only know how to touch in the dark.”
“Stay away?” He let out a low, dry chuckle that didn’t reach his eyes. “We’ll see about that, Transfer.”
Summary
Lena was raised to believe the world was dangerous.
Her mother taught her that girls who wanted too much became ruined. That men were temptation. That obedience was safety. That fear was protection.
So Lena learned to be quiet.
She learned to cover her body.
