Chapter 1

"SUMMARY"
Evelyn was a quiet girl deeply obsessed with books, especially historical and paranormal stories. To her, they were only myths written to scare people — until the exact same events written within the pages began happening in her real life.
Evelyn was an eighteen-year-old college girl who found comfort in silence, books, and rainy evenings. She had soft brown hair that usually fell loosely around her shoulders, pale skin, and deep blue eyes that always looked lost in thought. Her style was simple yet elegant — oversized dark sweaters, plaid skirts, silver rings, black boots, and long coats that made her look like she belonged inside the pages of an old gothic novel.
Every day after college, Evelyn followed the same routine. She would walk through the quiet streets with headphones resting around her neck and make her way to the old city library — the one place that felt more like home than anywhere else.
Unlike most people her age, Evelyn was obsessed with paranormal fiction, dark romance, ancient myths, and fantasy stories filled with curses, forbidden magic, and demons. She never truly believed in those things, though. To her, they were only fascinating stories written to entertain and scare people. In fact, reading them comforted her strangely instead of frightening her.
That evening, rain tapped softly against the library windows while the scent of old paper filled the air. The library was unusually quiet, almost too quiet. Only the faint ticking of the wall clock echoed between the tall wooden shelves.
Evelyn walked toward her favorite section — Dark Romance & Paranormal Fiction.
Her fingers moved across the spines of countless books until one caught her attention near the top shelf. As she reached for it, the lights above her suddenly flickered.
Once.
Twice.
Then the entire aisle dimmed for a moment.
Evelyn frowned slightly and looked around, but nobody else seemed to notice. She reached for the book again, but before she could touch it, another book suddenly slipped out from between the shelves and fell directly near her feet with a loud thud.
The lights stopped flickering.
For a moment, everything became still.
Evelyn slowly bent down and picked up the book. It was old, covered in black leather darkened with age. There was no title written on it. No author’s name. No description. Nothing.
Only a strange silver symbol pressed into the cover.
A cold feeling crawled across her skin.
Before she could inspect it further, hurried footsteps approached from behind.
The librarian appeared at the end of the aisle, breathing heavily as if he had been searching for something. The moment his eyes landed on the book in Evelyn’s hands, the color drained from his face.
“You shouldn’t touch that,” he said quietly.
Evelyn looked confused. “Why?”
The librarian hesitated for a moment before speaking again.
“Some books,” he whispered, “were never meant to be opened.”
The seriousness in his voice almost made the atmosphere feel heavier. But Evelyn only gave a small amused smile. She had heard enough ghost stories and rumors to know how dramatic people could become over old things.
To her, it was probably just another strange library myth.
Without thinking much about it, she slipped the book into her bag.
The librarian looked like he wanted to stop her, but he said nothing more. He simply stepped back silently, his uneasy eyes still fixed on the black book.
Ignoring the strange warning completely, Evelyn adjusted her coat, picked up her bag, and walked out of the library — unaware that the moment she touched that book, something had already begun following her.
