the best day
“It’s the best day of my life!” Kevin shouted, his grin wide as his friends tossed balloons into the air. The spring sunlight spilled across the garden, painting everything in gold. Music pulsed from the speakers, laughter rippled through the crowd, and for once, the world felt perfect.
His parents stood proudly on the porch, watching him with warmth in their eyes. The cake towered on the table, candles waiting to be lit. Kevin’s chest swelled with joy; everyone he cared about was here, safe and smiling.
He kicked off his shoes and ran barefoot across the grass, spinning until the colors blurred into streaks of light. For a fleeting moment, he believed nothing could ever shatter this happiness. The words echoed in his mind like a promise: It’s the best day of my life.
