My comfort

“Hello! Blue, wake up! How can you still be sleeping? Am I your boss, or are you mine?”

The phone was on speaker, and the listener was still half asleep.

“If you don’t get ready within thirty minutes, I’m not driving you. And today’s salary will be deducted.”

The man on the call sounded irritated.

“Salary?! Noooo… Wait! I’ll be there!”

Still sleepy, the girl quickly threw away her blanket and got up in a hurry. She ran toward the bathroom.

After showering, she wore a suit and grabbed the bread that was on the table. Her room looked a little… messy. She quickly ran outside. Her warm-toned skin looked softer under the morning sunlight.

The car was waiting in front of her house. It was none other than her boss’s car. He stepped out and stood in front of her. Even in heels, the top of her head barely reached his shoulders.

“What happened to your hair?”

Even though he was already annoyed because of her delay, his attention quickly shifted to the messy strands falling over her face. He frowned slightly and flicked her hair away from her forehead before looking at her properly.

“Ah! My hair… I’ll tell you later. Get in the car, we’re already late. I’ll drive.”

She quickly pushed him back into the car.

“It’s your daily routine! I think I should find a new secretary!” he said sarcastically.

But she didn’t even look at him and kept driving the car.

“You didn’t eat breakfast?” he asked, looking at the bread she brought.

“Yes!” She made an innocent face. “I’m hungry now… I also think I should leave this job,” she said dramatically.

“Just because you sleep late every morning!” he replied.

“Yeah! I can’t wake up early! How many times have I told you that?”

“And you act like you don’t have habits like that!” she said loudly.

“I don’t sleep like a pig,” he said, making a funny face to tease her.

“Shut up, Sky!”

She yelled at him and focused on driving.

“Well! You still didn’t tell me why you cut your hair.” To change the topic, he asked about her hair again.

“Nothing! I thought I’d look pretty in short hair,” she answered casually.

“Pretty? Hah! What a joke. Your long hair looked better on you,” he replied.

“Who cares about your opinion?” She smirked at him and gave him a side-eye.

“Yeah! Who cares? Your hair became just like your height and mind now.” He laughed at her.

“Yeah! Definitely… just as beautiful as my hair,” she replied confidently.

They kept bickering with each other the whole way.

When they reached the office, they immediately started behaving like a secretary and a boss again. She opened the door for him as they walked inside the building.

“Good morning, Mr. Kavin.”

“Good morning, Miss Araya.”

The employees greeted them respectfully as they walked toward the cabin. Kavin entered the office looking serious and strict, while Araya followed behind him with a calm expression.

She entered the room and started eating the snacks she had brought with her. He looked at her like, ‘Huh! Again!’ Then he sat in his chair, checked the pending files on his table, and started working.

Araya stood beside Kavin’s chair, looking through the files. While eating, she informed him about what each file was about and what work was still pending.

After finishing her snacks, Araya went outside and brought two cups of coffee for them. It was around eleven o’clock, and Kavin was still busy working. She placed the coffee on his table and told him to finish it before it got cold. After that, she returned to her own tasks.

...

It had already been eight years since they started working together. After the death of his father, Thanawat Thamrongchai, Kavin took over the company with his talent and hard work. Even before he became the boss, Araya had already been working there as an intern.

Araya was the granddaughter of Nicha Wongsa, Kavin’s neighbor. Whenever she visited her grandmother’s house, she used to play games with him. Later, after her father, Chanin Methasiri, got a job in the US, she stayed with her grandmother. Over time, she and Kavin became close friends, never knowing that they would end up working together in the future.

Even though Araya had no experience, Kavin’s father trusted her and asked her to support Kavin in the future. When Kavin first started learning about the company and its work, he always asked Araya to accompany him. Eventually, he chose her to become his secretary.

Eventually, they became perfect at their work. They rarely thought about anything outside of it. Kavin’s goal was clear—he wanted to make his father’s company number one, and he worked as hard as he could to take it to the next level.

Araya’s goal in life was to stand on her own. Her father had moved abroad and rarely visited her, but he always supported her decisions. Her grandmother was often worried about her because she was always stuck in the same routine—wake up, work, and repeat. Sometimes, Araya even forgot to eat dinner.

During these eight years, she never thought about having a love life. Her grandmother never pressured her about getting a boyfriend either. For Araya, work had become the first priority in her life.

…

After finishing their work, all the employees started leaving the office, but the boss stayed behind. The two of them remained there, analyzing the company’s profits and business patterns.

Late into the night, Araya eventually fell asleep on the couch while Kavin was still searching for something on his computer. When Kavin noticed that Araya had fallen asleep on the couch, he looked at his wristwatch and thought, ‘It’s already late… She must be tired.’

He closed the computer in front of him and took the jacket hanging on the back of his chair. Walking toward her, he bent down slightly and placed the coat over her upper body. Then he gently patted her head, messing up her hair a little.

Carefully, he lifted her into his arms in a bridal style and walked toward the elevator. Araya looked completely comfortable, as if she was already used to it. She was a deep sleeper after all.

After reaching the parking area, Kavin carefully placed her in the front seat of his car and started driving home.

...

When they reached Blue's house, Sky tried to wake her up, but she was still fast asleep.

He let out a tired sigh before stepping out of the car. Walking around to the passenger side, he opened the door and looked at the sleeping woman.

"Hey! Wake up! You're not a child anymore."

There was no response.

He rubbed his forehead in frustration.

"Hah... I want to scream right now, but if I do, the whole neighborhood will come out to see what's happening."

Carefully, he unfastened her seatbelt and gently shook her shoulder.

Only then did she stir a little.

"Did we arrive...?"

Her voice was nothing more than a sleepy mumble.

Sky immediately straightened up.

"Finally! You're awake."

He looked exhausted after the long day.

"It's already late. You should learn how to take a taxi. Then you won't have to wait until I'm done with work every time."

"Well, we're here now. Thanks for the ride."

Araya rubbed her eyes, picked up her bag, and stepped out of the car.

As she walked toward the front gate, Sky called out from behind her.

"I'm not coming to pick you up tomorrow, so don't forget. And make sure you get to work on time."

His voice sounded irritated, but not harsh. Even when he was annoyed, he always spoke to her more gently than he did to anyone else.

"Yeah, yeah. I remember."

She waved her hand without turning around.

Then she suddenly stopped and looked back at him.

"Oh right, I have something to tell you."

"What?" he asked.

"My mother said she'll be coming home next month. She also asked you to meet her. She said she wants to talk about something."

Blue shrugged.

"I don't know what it is. I'm just telling you in advance."

"Okay. Go inside now. Your grandma will be worried."

Sky waved his hand before walking toward the car.

"Good night."

Blue waved back and headed inside.

...

Sky was getting ready for an occasion. Dressed in a formal suit, he looked especially handsome.

As he adjusted his tie, he glanced at the clock.

It was almost ten in the morning.

He immediately took out his phone and called Blue.

The call connected after three or four rings.

“I knew you would be late. What are you doing? Did you reach the office yet?” he asked one question after another.

“I’m in a taxi. I’ll be there in ten minutes. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of the work.”

Blue’s voice sounded unusually heavy.

Sky frowned.

“Why do you sound like you just ran a marathon?”

“It’s nothing. I just rushed to get a taxi.”

Just then, he heard another voice from the other side of the room.

“Are you done? We have to go.”

Sky turned toward the door.

It was his mother.

“Coming, Mom!”

He looked back at his phone.

“Hey, Blue. Go safely and take care of the work. I’m heading out now.”

“Okay.”

The call ended, and Sky followed his mother outside.

Sky and his mother left the house to attend the family occasion.

“Is Blue late again?” his mother asked.

“Hm. You know, Mom, her routine is almost the same as mine, but she’s always late. I think it’s because of her diet,” Sky replied.

“Blue is a good kid. I asked her to attend the occasion with us, but she refused to come. Did something happen?” his mother asked worriedly.

“She didn’t say anything. She just told me that she wanted to take a break. She said she’d go home early and get some rest. I thought it would be best for her.”

As he spoke, his concern for Blue was obvious.

His mother noticed how much Sky and Blue respected each other’s decisions.

A soft smile appeared on her face.

“Hmm... But I don’t think she’ll be resting.”

Sky looked at her curiously.

“When you two were younger and had a day off together, you’d spend the whole day playing games. You wouldn’t even eat proper meals, just snacks. She’s probably at home playing games and eating snacks right now.”

After hearing that, Sky laughed.

“I think you’re right. I wouldn’t be surprised”

...

Blue went to the office as usual.

Since Sky wasn't there, she handled a few small meetings for the team and arranged the documents that needed the boss's approval.

At lunchtime, she thought about calling Sky.

Her finger hovered over his contact for a moment, but she stopped herself.

"He might be busy. I'll just disturb him."

So she put her phone away and continued eating alone while thinking about the pending work.

The afternoon passed quickly.

Because she was so focused on work, she didn't even realize Sky wasn't in the office.

As usual, she entered the cabin with a file in her hand.

"Boss!"

The word slipped out naturally.

For a second, she stood there in silence before realizing what she had just done.

She looked around the empty office and laughed at herself.

"Today he didn't even come to work."

Shaking her head, she walked back to her desk.

"He must be enjoying himself over there."

Then she returned to work.

...

By the time she finished most of the pending tasks, it was almost six in the evening.

Feeling tired after a long day, she booked a taxi home.

While waiting outside the office building, she decided to call Sky.

The phone rang several times before he finally answered.

"Are you busy? It took you a decade to answer."

She spoke in a sarcastic tone.

"I'm with a guest, so I came outside to talk."

"Oh."

Blue nodded even though he couldn't see her.

"I just called to tell you that I'm heading home. I thought the function would be over by now."

Sky took a moment before replying.

"Yeah... Actually, the function ended around five. Mom had some work, so I stayed back. We'll be heading home together."

Just as he finished speaking, another voice could be heard from the other side.

"Sky! We started the game. Are you coming?"

The voice sounded soft and polite.

Blue blinked.

"Who was that, Sky?"

There was a brief pause.

"I'll call you later. After you get home, send me a text."

Before she could ask anything else, the call ended.
