Nothing Left

Shhh…Do you hear it too? Listen closer, there is something there…. Now I understand. This is the sound of shadows slowly creeping in, promising the rest I wanted for so long… I am so tired, so cold… So… very cold. Can you give me a spark? Just a tiny ember, something to keep me company, to hold my hand, to not let me fall under the comforting blanket of snow. No? I figured as much. No one ever has any to give, but everyone wants it.

Me? I am just a nobody, someone long forgotten and dead to the world, who has been walking, just walking in search of something. What was that, that I search? I don’t remember, it has been so long… so cold.

Wait a moment I think… I am beginning to remember. Yes…yes, I remember those embers so eagerly dancing in my mind… I remember the feeling; it was so warm so… happy. As if nothing changed around us, we were everything and nothing… we were one. But they began to fade, I tried… I tried so hard to keep the fire going but it faded, there is…. There is nothing left, it’s all gone. The embers turned to ash...Then came the cold… so… very cold…and then came the static. Minutes turned to hours, hours turned to days, days to weeks, weeks to months, months to years and everything… just lost its meaning. Moments lasted for ages, things came and gone without leaving a slightest trace, and only pain from burns can pierce the static for me to wake up from this dream and to see the dark around me just to be reminded that all embers have turned to ash. Those moments last forever…

But then again what are embers anyway? They just feed on you to rekindle themselves until there is nothing left of you. Or me… they burn through skin and leave blisters on your soul. They never heal. It’s always there.

I might be overstaying my welcome, please forgive me, and… thank you. I now remember what I have forgotten. I… I need to go now, need to take care of something, farewell. Please… forget me.
