Hello Mr. Holland
Mia felt her throat is drying up by each passing second, she felt suffocated in her tight blouse and high heels, her hands involuntarily fiddled with her skirt length but stopped midway remembering the dignities of a secretary.
This is her first day as a secretary for billionaire businessman Ayden Holland, third heir of Holland steel and tech company, a fourth-generation billionaire with questionable origins.
In the Holland family, rarely a secretary leaves or resigns as they have access to most private information of their bosses, it is forbidden for them to do that.
But when Matt Wells, Ayden's secretary suddenly fell very sick, he suggested his cousin Mia Wells as a temporary replacement. Matt did give some tips and pointers on how to be a good secretary but Mia being a new graduate has little to no experience in real life.
Right now Mia is accompanying Ayden at one of the high-end restaurants in the city. She stood a few steps away from the chair Ayden was seated in.
On the other end of the dining table, a lady in black with an elegant face and extravagant jewellery was seated.
Ayden is fiddling with the wine glass in front of him while the lady is uninterestingly scanning her tablet.
She is Chiara George, the heiress of Geroge family with strong political affiliation and fiance of Ayden Holland.
It has been half an hour and neither Chiara nor Ayden spoke a single word. The awkwardness seeping inside the room made Mia sweat profusely with each passing second.
"Is this how rich people date?" Mia couldn't help but wonder.
A vibrating phone sound disrupted the peace inside the room. Chiara's secretary took a step forward and whispered something into her ear handing over the phone.
"I gotta go" Chiara rose to her feet, her curves elevated at each movement and the tinkling of her jewellery screamed out attention.
Ayden's gaze was still fixed on the wine glass in his hands and he didn't say anything and Chiara just left like that without any further explanations. Neither did Ayden ask for one.
After Chiara left with her secretary, the waiter came in with the main course. All of the dishes were placed one by one neatly in front of Ayden.
The smell of the freshly roasted meat and delicate seafood made Mia's stomach growl at once. She was so busy following Ayden all day she didn't even get to have her lunch.
For the first time in the entire day she followed him around, Ayden's attention shifted from his glass to the timid girl standing behind him.
Embarrassed Mia didn't know what to say and she greeted "Hello, Mr Holland" with a stupid grin.
"Who are you again?" asked Ayden.
Who am I? I've been following you the whole day and you just acknowledged my presence with a who are you? there's even a limit to an arrogancy. Mia cleared her throat "I am your new secretary Mr Holland" she smiled a little.
Ayden seemed to be lost in some thought as he stared at Mia for a while, "Did we meet somewhere before?" he asked lazily.
"Not that I know of Mr Holland" as Mia answered her stomach growled again. She cursed herself to death inside her mind.
Ayden signalled with his head to join him at the table.
Mia hesitantly pulled the chair and took a seat.
The cool breeze of the hot summer evening, the shimmering candlelight inside the room, the permeated perfume of the rose petals across the hall, Mia could never imagine that she would be replacing his billionaire boss's date on her first day at work.
