Chapter 1&2
CHAPTER ONE & TWO
"Maja, wait na, please am sorry," Adejare Williams ran after her best friend, Aremaja Omitoye, who was briskly walking towards their hostel.
"Deja, leave me o," Maja said visibly angry as she walked out of the hostel and sat at the front of the gate.
"I swear, I don't know what's always doing me, I did not plan to fight with Omotayo, for real."
"Like, I believe you," Maja said sulkingly facing the other side as Deja sat beside her.
"Maja now, please," Deja said but Maja did not budge, still giving Deja the cold shoulder.
"Nothing you do will make me forgive you this time around," said Maja.
"Seriously?" she said as she kissed Maja's cheek, earning a blush from Maja.
"Stop it, I am not forgiving you," Maja said still blushing, she knew her weak points and started tickling her.
"Oya, Oya stop, I forgive you," Maja said now laughing as tears fell down her eyes.
Maja and Deja had been best friends for a year now. They met in SSS1 when Deja got transferred to their school with her younger sister Adediwura. The two of them instantly clicked. Their aura, energy and everything was in sync though Deja loved fighting a lot but Maja hated that. But Maja was cheekily sassy, humorous and well somehow stubborn.
"Senior Maja, senior Deja," said Maja's school daughter Yomade who ran in panting and half crying.
"What happened, Made?"
"Who touched my baby? What happened?" Maja said as she pulled Yomade to sit beside her.
"Wura... she... she... fell... fro... from a... a... tre... e," said Yomade now in tears.
"Wura ke? Fell from a tree? Which tree?" asked Deja in an agitated state.
"The one in front of our class and she broke her arm."
"Broke her arm? Wura ooo!!!" Deja shouted as Maja calmed her down still patting Yomade's back.
"That stubborn girl! Sickbay right? Stay here Made. Don't you dare stand up. Deja, let's go!" Maja said as she jumped down the stairs with Deja behind her closely. They broke into a run with Maja taking the lead.
Maja suddenly tripped over a large stone and fell leg first onto a raised platform. Maja groaned in pain as Deja rushed to her instantly.
"Oh my God, the wound is darn deep. I told you to slow down, didn't I?"
"Relax, Scaredy cat. It's just a little... ouchie, I think I sprained my ankle too," cried out Maja after she had tried to stand up.
"Jeez, Are you nuts? I think you broke your leg. I should get you to the clinic."
"Eww, I hate clinics. Please can we not go?"
"Piggyback or princess style?"
"Princess style of course! I'm a princess so I deserve to be treated as one. Who the hell does piggybacks?"
"OMG, you've finally gone coco. You've lost your brains with the blood you lost, princess," said Deja mockingly as she raced to the clinic with Maja in her arms ignoring her chatter.
"I knew I smelt trouble from afar and truly, trouble came in!" said a girl named Imade, one of Maja's and Deja's worst enemies
"Talking to you would be an insult to all the idiots in the world. Baby girl, you basically reek of stupidity," said Maja from Deja's arms.
"Look here, idiots, I don't look like you and your fellow idiots. Let's respect ourselves today," Deja said eyeing Imade and the rest of her friends as she went in with Maja who made faces at them.
Deja got Maja a ward and all the likes. She then made sure a nurse was attending to her before going in search of her sister, Adediwura, Wura for short. She soon found her in a ward reading a novel.
"I thought you broke your arm? How I wish it was your head."
"The feeling is absolutely mutual, sister! Where's my favourite person?"
"Sprained her ankle while coming here. She'll soon be here. Give her two minutes or 5 at most.
" It happened again? And I think I can control it better now."
"Remind me what this is about again?"
"Dullard - come closer joor!" said Wura as Deja went over and she whispered into Deja's ear.
"Wait—for real?"
"Yeah for real—Do I look like the Joker? Come on, I can even show you if you want."
"Wait first, when we get to the dorm, show me. Someone might come in."
"What's up with the whispering?"
"Holy molly, you scared me, Aremaja."
"I just love scaring you Deja, let's go to the hostel, I can't stay in sickbay any longer."
"See the way you are limping, did they give you crutches?"
"I didn't collect it, I told them I had my own living crutch."
"Who?"
"You of course, Adejare."
"This is no way to treat your best friend, you know."
"Duh."
"Will you two stop making noise?"
"Sorry Jhare, Diwura. I forgot you also got injured. How are you feeling now?"
"Better. At least you asked someone with good manners, unlike somebody that does not know how to take care of her younger sister."
"Hey, don't talk about my bestie like that o. Bestie mhi Jhare, don't mind her. Let's go to the hostel, she'll come by herself," Maja said as she & Deja left Diwura's ward with Deja making faces at her sister.
"See the way you are slow, come lemme carry you joo," Deja said as Maja hopped on her back. They both got to the front of their hostel as their matron opened the gate.
"That's odd. Matron usually opens the gate early."
"Observer Mrs. Iseoluwa, please help me and Maja to watch our water..."
"How many buckets?"
"6, everything is beside your water."
"Whatever, what if SS3 girls come?"
"Just tell them it's Maja & Deja's water. They'll never touch it."
"Kkk," Ise said as Deja carried Maja into their dorm.
"Thankfully our dorm is not upstairs. Assuming it was, I would have died before carrying you there. Now, wait here and let me go and carry our water before some alaye baje somebody tap it," Deja said as she went to the water shed.
"Imade, help me pass that bucket of water."
"Ehn ehn, hope werey is not doing you. If you don't want me to show you typical Mushin madness, better don't carry any bucket from that place."
"What is always wrong with you, Deja?"
"Me? Nothing is wrong with me o. It is you that something is doing. Everybody will be fetching water in the morning, you people will be sleeping."
"So this 10 buckets of water is yours?"
"No, it is for your twin sister. Be asking me stupid question. Please leave the way, Jhare," Deja said as she began to carry the buckets of water.
"Abeg, carry one bowl out of it, joor."
"Sileola, abi ki ion so mo e l'orun? Maa to ija ekun, to ba fe mi ekun ya e yan ran yan ran. (Sileola. Or what did they name you? Don't pick a fight with the leopard, if you don't want the leopard to tear you into shreds."
"Egba mi . Deja, ma te iru oka mole, ki oka ma ba ge eke. (Don't step on the tail of the python, so the python will not bite you)."
"Just get out of the way!!" Deja said as she carried two away again.
"Snr Deja, let me help you."
"Thank you so much, Kayin," Deja said as Kayin helped her carry two buckets. After a while, they finished carrying all the buckets of water.
"Snr Deja, I'm going to my dorm o before th-
ey say 'leave the house now'. And tell Snr Maja not to stress herself."
"Kk, Kayin. I'll tell her. Be fast o. Oyinkan & Tolani can start parading now," Deja said as she went back to her dorm. She met Maya trying to carry a bucket of water. She ran to her and collected it from her.
"Like seriously, Are you trying to kill yourself?"
"Deja, I only sprained my ankle. It's not like I broke my leg or something."
"See how you sound like a doll. C'mon go and sit."
"Adejare now..."
"OMITOYE ADETUTU AREMAJA, go and sleep on my bed."
"Hmph, you always act like you are older than me," Maja said as she limped over to their bunk.
"Now, if you'll please remove your uniform and socks," Deja said as Maja just ignored her.
"If you make me repeat that again, I'll spank you really hard."
"Hmph, And am older than you oo o," Maja said as she removed her uniform, socks & shoe before laying on the bed. Deja left to wash their clothes while Maja tried to sleep but as she was about dozing off, she remembered she had to take something for them to eat. She pulled out her box and opened it. She poured garri, sugar, milk, milo and groundnuts into their cups, picked four biscuits and two juice
pack with 6 sweets. She divided equally and placed it into their bags before locking her box and laying back. Hardly had she slept for two minutes, when she heard Deja's voice telling her to wake up.
"Hmm, Hmm, what is it, Jhare?"
"Tolani & Oyinkan are already parading about."
"Eh weh, where is my house wear bayi?"
"Take joor. Let me take something for us to eat."
"Don't worry, I already did that," Maja said as she wore her house wear, picked her scarf and specs.
"Seriously now, Maja."
"What? I got to look good."
"Let's she go," Deja said as Maja wore her sandals. Oyinkan & Tolani were just some of the SS3 girls that were in the hostel. Their real house captains were Ikmat and Okikiola.
Luckily, Tolani and Oyinkan were in a dorm upstairs so Maja and Deja passed without a hitch.
"Pretty nice escapade, huh. But what's up with Maja's leg?" asked Ifeoluwa, one of Maja's classmates.
"While running, she hit her leg and sprained her ankle."
"Sorry Maja," Ife said as the two of them made their way to the class area.
