Prologue.
It wasn't supposed to be this way. No trace of sunshine I could hear rain drops from my sleep and when my alarm decided that I had enough to sleep... It rang. The volume felt too loud today and I had to open them eyes just to see the cloudy sky through my transparent glass. My body was screaming for me to hold my blanket donclose, but my mind? Well it didn't scream, just slowly whispered sleep and money will meet you in your dreams. Shit! Now my financial status was mocking me.
I threw the blanket so far that I couldn't see where it landed and got out of bed facing the coldness as it went direct to my bones. If only I was born a royalty.
First was first, I took my phone and entered the code I learned since I can't remember, to check if I was being hacked and as always.... Nobody hacked me.
That was my daily first activity I would do after I open my eyes and it's not like I was hacked once or something like that, it's just... Well I don't know why I do it. It's not like someone would bother hack a poor lady with nothing. But I think since I am amazing IT... I was called that many times... So I had to at least perform what I knew. And I enjoyed it.
I brushed my teeth, took a bath, dressed, picked up my bag heading out to work. On my way I stopped for a bread and a cup of tea at main bakery, that was the most interesting part of my schedule, those people knew how to bake. I didn't know why but seems like heavens was on my side today just because I arrived early at work, unlike the usual me so I used that time to call the kin I knew. My aunt. She was the one who took me in after the death of my parents and I am grateful and forever will. She tried everything she could you make sure that I felt her love and received it like her own daughter. Catherine. Cate. That's my cousin's name. We are inseparable that people think we are twins.
Unlike me, Cate is so in love with drinks that she decided she would be a bar owner and now she is. Sometimes I just sit quietly, look at her and tell her that I envy her confidence, her passion and everything. And everytime she would give me a bitch smile and say you know, you are welcome to work at my bar and I could pay you double unlike the shif you are doing right now, but that... That wasn't what I loved. I don't like what I am doing right now either but I would never take risk and blew up everything she held dearly because I would do what she expects me to do. And I know it. Oh! I was going to call aunty, I did and she spoke first.
"Up early again Naira?"
"As always"
"So tired and it's just the day starting" I just knew she would start complaining.
" I knew you would Sense it"
" Always do"
" Missed your cute face aunty"
" At least you call. That foolish Catherine would never, she just decides the time to come home unannounced and scare the shit out of me"
" That's Cate. So lively" I said as I laughed not knowing which side to choose.
" When are you two coming back?"
" I thought about dragging her this weekend but then you know my job, it's not promised"
" Naira..."
" Don't start with it aunty, I can't just work at the bar because it gives more money, it's Cate's most cherished thing we are talking about"
" But still...." These two would suffocate me when it comes to my job.
" I am all good Aunt"
" Okay! But if it gets too hard, return home and I will pamper you my girl" as sweet as always.
" It won't. Now I really have to go. Work calls"
"Bye sweetie"
"Bye aunt"
Inhung up the call to start work but before that I sent a text to my three years boyfriend Derrick simply saying
"I just started my day, have a nice one too" i pocketed my phone not waiting for reply and started working.
Tons of packaged waiting to be properly packed a d delivered, a d that's what ibdo, I package the items to be delivered and deliver them to the provided addresses, as a 32 years old lady I know that right now the world expected me to be a married woman with kids a d a proper job but that was the stability I lacked. Derrick never proposed for marriage but ainalso didn't think the time was right, I don't even know what I was waiting for but for sure this wasn't the time and about work? I loved to roam around wen working that's why delivery job seemed reasonable, otherwise I would be in one of the big companies, just sitting surrounded by dozens of computers since I was a killer in information technology....
"You better get that ass moving babygirl, jackline is on her way and you know how grumpy she is" Sylvia came talking sense into me.
"Thanx girl, I didn't notice I was zooning out" I quickly got back to work and in no time the devil arrived.
" Still no enough packages to be delivered?" That's jackline.
"As if we are robots and if you checked carefully you would realize that work hours just started" Sylvia had a mouth and I liked that for her.
" Don't act a smart mouth bitch"
"The nice part is...am not acting miss Jackline" woaaah!
"Where are the boys?" She asked as we looked at each other deciding who should brake the news until I decided I will.
"There were undelivered packages from yesterday, so they started with it this morning"
"Am I really paying you for nothing?" This woman. If that's what it seems to be what we are doing. I wanted to say that loud but I didn't.
"The deliveries weren't oersonal, they were companies and factories essentials" I tried to explain.
"As if I care"
