Chapter 1
I open my eyes to find myself bound in a wooden arm chair, with my hands and legs tied up.
In the darkness, I tried to look around for something I could use to escape but it was no use.
???: “Oh, you’re awake! Finally!”
I looked towards the voice. It sounded familiar. Scratch that, I know this voice. I know her very well.
You might be wondering what is happening.
Well, in short, the woman who is standing in front of me has kidnapped me.
In long, we need to go back to about a week ago.
The morning alarm rang loudly forcing me out of my sweet dream.
“Why doesn’t this shut up!?” I whispered to myself angrily.
I snoozed the alarm and woke up.
I looked up at the clock and saw the time 6:30, in the morning.
“Why is school this early?!” I sighed as I dragged myself to the washroom.
I freshened up and took a shower.
As I got out of the shower, I saw my phone light up.
I picked it up and saw a message from Lea.
A smile formed on my face as I saw her message.
Lea Luther, Lea is my childhood friend; we have been together since Elementary school. She lives 2 houses away from me so we are over at each other’s houses pretty often.
Being together since childhood tends to make you know more about the person than you should.
Her blonde hair and her green eyes were the reason I first approached her, also the fact that she looked like a boy.
And boy, when I told her that, she was not happy. It’s safe to say that she doesn’t part her hair the same way and I don’t wear half sleeves anymore.
She pulled my hair and scratched me worse than any cat ever did.
After that, she gifted me my hair, in a Ziploc bag! That piece of brown hair is still buried in the backyard.
Even through these incidents, we are closer than ever.
I like her and she likes me too but we haven’t made it official due to my reputation.
I opened my wardrobe and picked out my clothes.
I study at Valemont Academy, the most prestigious school in the country.
I got in on an academic scholarship but also made myself comfortable in basketball.
The national championship was just 2 days ago; I returned home yesterday.
Now, all that remains in my school life is 2 months of study and finals.
I got ready and walked down into the dining room.
“Good morning mom, what’s for breakfast?” I greeted my mother.
“Good morning darling, here’s your eggs and toast.” My mom replied as she handed me my plate.
I thanked my mom as I began eating.
After finishing, I grabbed my bag and bid mom bye.
I usually walk to school alone and today was no different.
A FEW MINUTES LATER,
I arrived at school with plenty of time to spare.
But something was odd, there was not the usual crowd of the morning.
Only a few students who I don’t even know.
Giving it no pay despite it being weird, I continue to my class.
The hallway was silent almost as if there was no school.
I pulled out my phone and checked the day.
It was a weekday, there was school.
I reached my classroom.
I opened the door and walked in.
The lights came on and confetti burst around me as everyone shouted “Congratulations, James!”
That’s me. James Duncan.
I saw everyone, teachers, my classmates, my teammates and also Lea.
Recovering from shock, I muttered out “W…What’s this?”
One of my teammates came forward.
“A celebration! We won the championship all because of you, Mr. MVP.”
I felt myself blushing.
“Come on guys, it was a team effort.”
Lea shoved some cake in my mouth.
“It was but you were the MVP.” Lea spoke.
We continued celebrating until the bell rang.
Students went back to their class and Lea also left to her class and teachers began their classes.
This is my life, a popular student as Valemont Academy. Almost everyone knows me and even I know almost everyone.
The classes continued as the bell for recess rang.
I walked down to my locker as people continued congratulating me in the hallway.
I opened my locker to take out some of my books, a letter fell out.
The letter had no name but I opened it.
It said to meet someone on the rooftop after school, I considered going or not but decided I should go because what if it’s something important.
I kept the letter back and took out my books as someone spoke besides me.
“What you doin?!”
I turned around and looked at Lea.
“What do you think, I am grabbing a train to Narnia.”
Lea rolled her eyes as she grabbed my ears and twisted it.
“Ow, ow, ow!! Let it go! Let it go!” I howled.
“Apologize, only then.” Lea demanded.
“Alright, alright, I apologize.”
Lea let go and I nursed my ears.
“Do you want to walk home after school?” Lea asked.
“I have some work today, some other time.” I replied.
“Oh, okay.” Lea said in a disappointed tone.
I felt bad looking at that.
“How about we get Ice cream tomorrow and I can walk you home?” I suggested.
“You really expect me to deny this double header, of course I agree.”
The bell rang and I returned to my class.
I took my seat as I looked beside and saw Ashley sitting, her nose in her book.
She was always like this; her nose was always in a book.
Ashley Willams, she was the quiet kid of the school.
“How you doing Ashley?” I asked.
She lifted her head and looked at me.
“F…Fine. How you doing?!” She buried her face back into the book before I could reply.
“I am fine too. You ready for Finals?” I replied.
All I got was a cold shoulder. The teacher walked and class started.
The classes continued and finally the end of the day bell rang.
I got up and quickly walked to my locker.
I opened it and 3 letter fell out, the previous one and 2 others.
I kept my books and picked up the letters.
The letters also said to come to the rooftop.
“It must be urgent”
I quickly put the letters in and closed my locker.
I crossed Lea on my way and we bid goodbye.
I walked up to the roof and stood all alone.
I suddenly felt the hair on my neck standup.
I felt I was being watched.
I turned back but the roof door was shut and no one was in sight.
I heard someone clearing their throat.
I turned and saw 3 girls standing there.
Ashley was also one of them.
“I’m assuming you guys called me here?” I asked the girls.
“Yes, but it turns out we chose the same day and place to tell you.”
One girl stepped up.
“I’ll start. I am Lana and I’ve been holding it in for a while now. I like you James and I would like to go on a date with you.”
Lana stepped back, her face crimson red.
I felt the feeling of being watched again but ignored it.
Another girl stepped up.
“I am Kat. I’ve liked you for the past 3 months and I would also like to go on a date with you.”
Kat stepped back, her face crimson red.
I felt the feeling intensify as I turned back, but I could see nothing.
I turned back and Angela had stepped up.
“I…I like you.”
Her face was already so crimson, I was afraid she would pass out.
Angela stepped back and the air grew silent.
The 3 girls stared at me and I stared back at them.
Their words repeated themselves in my mind.
But I knew what answer to give them.
“I really appreciate you guys coming out here and saying what you feel. But unfortunately, I am not in the correct headspace to date right now.”
The girls got a disappointed look on their faces as the feeling of being watched disappeared.
I turned back and went down the stairs to the exit.
The sun was setting and I had just left school.
The route I take to school is usually lively in the morning but at night, it looks terrifying.
There are no street lights, so it’s really easy to feel scared.
But I am used to it, so it’s like none other.
I was walking down the street, my footsteps echoing.
I suddenly heard another set of footsteps behind me.
I stopped and the sound stopped.
I turned back but saw nothing.
I continued walking as the sound started again behind me.
This time, I ran, I ran like I had never before.
I reached my house; I quickly opened the doors and burst in locking the door behind me.
I heaved against the door.
My hair stuck to my head due to sweat.
I peeped through the peephole but saw nothing.
I let out the breath I didn’t realize I was holding.
I went up to my room and took a shower.
I got out wondering who could follow me.
I went down to get dinner because mom usually works late.
I got the dinner out of the fridge and heated it up.
I sat down in front of the TV as I ate my dinner.
In hindsight, it was a bad idea to put on a thriller movie at night.
The killer stomped through the backyard of the Main character, about to enter through the backdoor.
The Tv signal cuts out just as the movie was getting good.
I got up and washed the dishes in the sink.
That was when I heard it.
Footsteps in the backyard.
I went near the glass backdoor and looked out.
I couldn’t see anyone but I could see something else.
A pair of tiny footsteps in the backyard.
The footsteps clearly showed they were of a girl.
“A girl is following me?”
I decided that it was not safe to stay the night here.
I picked up my phone and dialled Lea.
“Helllooo” Lea said in a sing-song tone.
“Can I stay there today? Please don’t say no!”
“Of course, but what happened?”
“I’ll explain everything when I get there.”
I quickly checked through the peephole and left for Lea’s house.
I ran to Lea’s house and knocker furiously on her door.
Lea opened the door and I quickly got in, closing the door behind me.
“What happened!?” Lea asks, her voice concerned.
“I…I don’t mean to scare you but…”
“Someone is following me.”
