Summary

A life full of joy and tragedy, Vila's story begins with the very person she despises. Thankfully, a man by the name of Sommi rescues her from the clutches of her master. Years go by with her bubble of ignorance to what goes on anywhere else and she lives happily on the outskirts of Kai village. This all changes when she comes home from the market one day to find her little hut ransacked and her hero, Sommi, gone. A man named Vensen haunts her every thought as she travels the country of Aishy and the void itself in search of her father figure. Many strange and horrifying events take place as Vila also encounters revelations of who she is and the family she hails from. None of it makes sense, and yet there is a hidden string of order in it all.

Prologue

The docks roared with sound from the many people who sought business. Merchants chanted their spoils while workers begged for coin compensation.

She observed with wonder as her eyes spotted all the shiny things. The grip on her mother’s hand was the only thing that was more important to her in that very moment. She let her mother guide her through the maze of riches and flamboyant voices as she continued her admiration of Ythem city.

Eventually, her mother led the both of them to a more secluded area, but the noises of economic success could still be heard clearly.

She looked up to her mother as they stood by a setup for fruit purchases.

Mother didn’t look back down at her, in fact, she didn’t seem to have her usual expressions.

A lock of her unruly blonde hair got in the way of her big blue eyes, so she used her whole palm to brush it to the side behind her ear. Then, she asked the only question that made sense to her four-year-old mind, “Mommy, what are we getting?”

Mommy didn’t answer.

She found this odd, Mommy always had a reaction for everything she said and did. Her free hand grabbed the sleeve of her mother’s favorite black jacket. “Mommy? Mommy. Mommy! Moooooommmyyyyyy!”

“Good evening to the both of you.” An unknown man approached the two seemingly from the shadows. “I take it this is the transaction we agreed upon.”

A man in white followed beside him, being more rotund than this man in purple but similar in height.

As she observed the stranger, her hand brushed back the rogue lock of hair again. That’s when she felt the warmth leave her other hand. Why would Mommy let go?

Her mother’s hand gently shoved her forward. “Yes, this is her.” She said it without emotion. She then reached out her hand to retrieve a wad of cash from the stranger.

She watched her mother turn around and begin to leave without her. “Mommy?” The man in white gently grabbed her shoulder. She turned around and looked at him. This stranger, even if he seemed nice, was too close to her. She began to bellow a scream.

The man in white stopped her before it could be heard with a tap on her forehead. With this he activated a sleep spell on the child.

She gave in without trouble and plopped into his massive arms.

The man in white was quick to pick her up and stood upright. A nervous breath told of his anxiety. “Oh shit.” He then looked to his employer who made the mysterious transaction.

He glared back at his servant with a look that spoke of an already unpleasant situation. He took a long and deep sigh to release enough frustration. “I’ll take care of it from here.” His arms cradled underneath the girl as the man in white handed her off. He then gave him some instructions, “Continue with your politics, I’ll let either of you know when the time has come.”

The man in white was dismissed and left for his duties.

The other, with the girl, began to march in a different direction. As he strode to his destination he voiced his frustrations, “Such a mess…”
