A Story Song
Listen and I’ll tell you of the Iamer called Raytooth,
of how he fought and won the war above the Spectral Sea
on Pedestal, Enchanted Isle,
which wears the Mountains of the Crown,
on Isotope, the central peak.
That’s where I long to be.
There upon that summit, above the Mountains of the Crown,
the Life Flower of the Universe did weave infinity.
Fondurious, Olonistar,
Synthasius, Teletremir
and Minglas ring Ilfaythur fair,
home of the Iamie
Immortal as the valley Ilfaythur, which means Ring of Light,
taking any shape they choose, there dwell the Iamie.
Streams flow down from Isotope
and cross Ilfaythur there to join
into the Five Forever Falls
that feed the Spectral Sea.
Iamie wear their shapes to identify each other
and perceive the world in which they live
extra-sensorially.
Raytooth was so nicknamed for
the sheen of light that spans his mouth
and changes color as he speaks
with other Iamie.
Far across the Homelands
the Time Dome sits in wonder,
created by the Life Flower
to teach the Iamie.
Within that supernatural place
the platform of the Time Door lies
and opened by a single touch
reveals eternity.
Nothing must pass through it
but the sight of those observing
all the creatures of the Homelands
have been made to know,
for any lifeform passing through
would be without dimension true.
If it escaped the Time Door’s light,
’twould surely come as foe.
Giggly Mimbo and Poppity Robbo
decided to visit the Time Door one day.
When they opened the Door,
five giant figures stood there.
They realized what they were seeing in dismay.
As the Time Doors’ halves
reached the straight up position
giant hands reached out and held them there.
Knowing that they just
witnessed an invasion,
the two Homelanders fled in despair.
Giants forced the Door closed before they’d been exposed.
Rolling like tumbleweeds over the Homelands,
racing to bring news to the Iamie,
crossing an entire side of their planet
the Homelanders headed
for the Spectral Sea.
Electromagnetic whirlwinds
rose before them,
but they braved the dangers most would flee,
singing songs of power,
songs of the Life Flower,
sweeping forward into history,
weary but not failing, dire need prevailing.
Reaching the shore they persuaded a Skeeter
to carry them both across the Spectral Sea.
On one of the beeches between the Great Falls
by chance they did find
one of the Iamie.
Raytooth heard their tale
and took them to Ilfaythur,
held a council with the Iamie,
flew a mission to check
the Time Door’s condition,
found the Giants had destroyed it completely.
Made themselves immortal, they’d destroyed the portal.
“We must fight!” cried the Iamie
“for they’ll enslave all of reality.
The source they’ll take
from the Life Flower,
then they’ll have absolute power.”
Swathed in flame
the Iamie flew forth to combat,
blasting earth from right beneath the Giants’ feet.
But no force could gain them
and no pit contain them.
Giants’ laughter met the Iamie’s defeat.
Back to Isotope to wait there without hope.
Gathered in Ilfaythur
the Iamie were silent.
Ripples marked the Giants’ passage
through the Spectral Sea.
From up above them came a sound
that caused them all to turn around.
Raytooth sat within the Life Flower,
laughing happily.
Up into Ilfaythur
the Giants climbed, undaunted.
Though Raytooth stood on Isotope,
they’d faced his kind before.
He said, “Iambis thulamuse.”
Iambis is the phrase they use
when changing form forever.
Thulamuse means Time Door.
Suddenly he shifted.
The Light of Time transfixed them.
All the Giants stood there frozen
as the mountain peaks.
The light that Raytooth’s mouth revealed
now forms the Time Door’s portal field
and changes color as before,
forever when he speaks.
