Chapter 1

Em

“Emily, wake up. You’re going to be late.”

Emily opens her eyes for real this time and realizes she is in a very small bedroom in a very small apartment. Considering how much her husband, Matthew said it would be great to be in charge of a small university science department in Vermont, she has been regretting that he talked her into leaving their West Side apartment in New York.

They had enough money to get a bigger place, but Matt was always about playing it safe. That’s why they didn’t get engaged for 5 years. He “wanted to make sure they kept the connection going.” And after 8 years they were finally married in Martha’s Vineyard. A picture perfect wedding.

Perfect picture everything. Emily always thought she wanted the dream for everything. At least that’s what she thought. Maybe it was her mother who kept telling her what her mother wanted. It was like her mother was living out her dream through Emily. She knew it. But how can you say no to your mother?

“Em! Come on, we’ve got to go.” Matt shook her and took the blanket off, that was so warm and toasty it made Emily moan. “I know hun, I just don’t want to be late for the lunch orientation. I need to make sure I’m a prime example on how,” Emily started reciting with him, “I’m never late for class.” Matt smiled and put his hand on her shoulder as he walked by. Emily sat at the small table which had all her toiletries. She was amazed how it even fit in the bedroom. She looked at herself in despair. She didn’t want to go anywhere but back in her bed with the blanket to cover her. Emily considered herself pretty. At least that’s what everyone else said she was. She found herself mousy like. She didn’t have the sexappeal as most of the other wives had in New York. But the woman around this town were subpar to say the least. She thought she was going to end up that way soon if she didn’t get a life.

Emily and Matt were kind of homebodies. Well Matt was an introvert, and Emily didn’t feel like trying to change him. She always wanted to go out every once in awhile, but he would always say he wasn’t in the mood. He would stay in his office all the time and she would be on her laptop shopping while CNN was on in the background. They didn’t really have too many friends in New York. But as mother would say, deal with it. Her mother never really approved of anything or anyone she dated. Except for Matt of course. And all his money his family had. Her mother lived in an active community in Florida. Emily doesn’t talk to her unless she has to.

She gets her dress on and starts going downstairs and feels a little overdressed. She didn’t care, would be nice to get dressed up every once and awhile. Matt meets her right at the end of the stairs. “You look wonderful. A little overdressed, but wonderful.”

She thought to herself, wow, really know how to make a girl feel special. Instead she told him thank you, and kisses him on the cheek.

They drive to the dining hall. The campus was very small. It looked like hardly anybody went to the school there. Emily didn’t see any students out. “Why does it look so dead?” Emily asks as she gets out of the car.

“It’s a very small campus. There’s only about 2,000 students. But being the head of the Science department is the next step Em.” Matt had so much excitement in his voice. He took her hand and they walk into the special room separated from the dining hall she assumed. She heard voices in the room next to her, but it was dead silent in their’s.

A man comes in the room, “Dr. Lucas?”

“Yes”

“Finally get to put a face to the name. It is such a pleasure to meet you son. I have so much hopes for the Science Department now that you are here.” The man shakes Matt’s hand in a hardy way.

“President Wand?” Matt had such a happy face. He was in heaven. Emily smiled to see that Matt had the biggest smile. She hasn’t seen him this happy. Not even on their wedding day. That made her sad but happy at the same time.

“I am so happy to have this opportunity. President Wand, I would like you to meet my wife, Emily Lucas.”

“Wonderful to meet you, and thank you for letting him come here.”

“It didn’t take too much coaxing, this place is beautiful.”

“I like your beautiful wife Matthew.” He took Emily’s hand and lightly kissed her hand. This made Emily blush. She’s not use to the attention, or being called beautiful for that matter. “Why thank you President Wand.”

“Oh please call me Donald.”

Matt steps in front of Emily. “Donald, I was wondering if we could chat a little about the department classes.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I only let beautiful woman call me Donald. It’s President Wand to everyone else.” The President then laughs and winks at Emily.

“Oh Donald, stop making her feel uncomfortable.” A beautiful woman walks up behind them, and touches Emily’s arm.

“Here’s my ball and chain, Cynthia Wand.”

Matt goes up right in front of Emily and shakes Cynthia’s hand. “It’s such a pleasure to meet you. Do you mind if I steal your husband for a minute.”

“Not at all.” Cynthia points her arm over to the President.

Cynthia smiles, Emily giggles and says “You’ll have to excuse him, I’ve never seen him this excited.”

“I didn’t know science could be such a turn on.”

“I didn’t either.” Emily laughs.

“Well don’t you worry my dear, I will give you the ins and outs of this beautiful college town.”

“That would be wonderful.”

For the next hour, Cynthia went up and down introducing everyone to Emily and explaining after the people walked away what gossip she had on them. She was quite amusing. But Emily just realized what a mistake she made. She excused herself from Cynthia walking down the hallway. With all of what was going on in the dining hall, she knew she would be even more bored then she was in New York. And that just sounded awful. Emily decided to go to the bathroom and sit in a stall. She thought, how does she get out of this now? There was no way there was any way she can turn it around now. What the fuck did she do. Matt texted her asking where was she? She knew she had to go back out there. She looked at the mirror before she went out. She knew she couldn’t live this way anymore. How the fuck was she going to get out. She had no idea.

When she walks out of the bathroom, she bumps into a student. She felt so stupid and asked them to excuse her, she tried to hide her face that was starting to get tears falling down it. She gets her arm held on to. Emily turns around and sees this beautiful man in front of her. This dark blue eyes made her tingle. “I’m so sorry miss, I didn’t mean to…” he stopped talking as she smiled. “It’s okay. I was in the way.” She couldn’t help but look at him while she tucked her hair behind her ear. And she started to do the embarrassed giggle as she walked away. She looked back as he stared right back at her. She quickly turned back and went into the other room.

Matt was right there covering up his annoyance with a smile. “Hope you were just getting acquainted with the dining hall.” He takes her arm as the students start coming in to go through a receiving line as what Emily thought it felt like. She kept smiling at everyone and just stop paying attention after a while until he came in the room. Big blue eyes is what she nicknamed him. Once he realized it was her again, he wouldn’t take his eyes off of her. She kept looking away, but every time she would look at him again, there were those damn blue eyes. He kept getting closer and closer and she kept getting more and more uncomfortable. She kept looking away and looked back and his eyes wouldn’t leave hers. He had this smirk that was starting to really get Emily flush.

Finally he got in front of her and he puts his hand out for her to shake and Matt stands right in front of her and shakes his hand. He starts talking to him, but he still looks straight at Emily when Matt catches him looking at her. “And this is my wife Emily.” He looks right at her. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Lucas.” He puts his hand out for her to shake it, Matt stands in front of it, and starts meeting the next student in line. Emily just begins to blush because she’s so uncomfortable because this “kid” is making her hot and bothered. And Big Blue Eyes keeps on looking at her throughout the rest of the line. She had to act like the rest of the line mattered, but she is couldn’t stop thinking about this guy she didn’t even get his name to. After he was done with the line he just stood on the other side of the wall across from her. He just kept watching her.

The line finally ended, and there were students and professors hanging around. After Emily and Matt finished meeting students, she looked up and noticed he was gone. She was annoyed a little looking across the room and couldn’t find him. After Matt and Emily went to get their coats, Matt went to go get the car and left Emily standing there alone. “It’s Jay.” Emily looked over to Big Blue Eyes sitting on the stairs. “I’m sorry?” Emily walks over to where Jay was sitting. “Mrs.Lucas.” as he stands up.

“You don’t have to call me Mrs. Lucas.” She takes a look into his eyes and has to look away. He holds his hand out to shake it, She takes it and just starts giggling.

“Just call me Jay.” He smiles and he asks “What can I call you, the most beautiful creature on this campus.” She notices that he keeps holding her hand gently rubbing her hand with his thumb.

“Emily, Em for short.” He brings up her hand up to his mouth and gently kisses the top of her hand. Emily noticed he has the softest lips and he was lightly kissing many times. He looked up with those blue eyes and were shooting right into her center. She knew she at least had to have wet panties by now. She heard a honk outside. “I’m sorry Jay, I have to go. It was a pleasure meeting you.” He kisses her hand again, “the pleasure is all mine beautiful. I will look forward to it.” Emily did a dorky giggle as what Matt called it. He said it made her sound goofy, she embarrassing say “you’ll have to excuse my laughing. Matt, I mean Dr. Lucas, thinks my laugh sounds dorky.”

Jay smiled with his baby blues, “I truly find it utterly adorable.” Emily instantly turns red. There was another honk from Matt blaring it. While he is still holding her hand, he softly rubs his thumb back and forth.

“I’m really sorry Jay, when he gets impatient it’s not going to be a fun car ride home.” Emily pulls her hand down, and Jay still holds her hand and pulls her closer to him. He kisses her cheek. It was like it was in slow motion. Emily didn’t know what was happening, she closed her eyes. She didn’t care what was going on in bottom middle region. She made a really long sigh and opened her eyes and saw Jay was very amused with her face. Embarrassed she starts to walk away. “I’m sorry, I am so embarrassed. I really have to go.”

“Em! What is taking you forever?” Matt loudly speaks as he comes in the door. She looks at him. “I’m sorry Matt, I just, just.” Her words were breaking. Jay holds her hand in the back of her. “I’m sorry Dr. Lucas, I was giving her a little tour when I found her lost coming back from the restroom. I found out about her love for baseball. And we just started talking about the Cubs since she told me she’s from a small city around Chicago. I’m sorry, it’s all my fault she was taking forever.” Matt’s face turned from annoyed to neutral.

“Oh no, what’s your name?” Matt steps forward toward them, and Jay lets go of Emily’s hand and goes to shake his hand. “Jay sir. Don’t worry, you’ve learned half the campus’ names today.”

“No need to use sir Matt.”

“Your wife is too easy to talk to, unlike every other wives on campus. I’m sorry, this is embarrassing, what is your name?” Jay looks right at Emily and she just laughs and tries to cover it up like Jay didn’t say her name two minutes before. Matt looks at Emily with disappointment. “Emily, Jay.”

“Mrs. Lucas.” Matt corrects her.

“Sorry, I hate to be proper, but you can call me Mrs. Lucas.” Emily rolls her eyes as she smiles.

“You going to be taking my class Ben?

Emily corrects Matt, “his name is Jay, Matt.”

Matt takes Emily’s arm around his waist. “Oh that’s right, sorry, so are you taking it?”

Jay says as he looks from Emily’s eyes to Matt, “yes I am.”

“Well good.”

“I look forward to it.” He looks right at Emily but then looks away really quickly. He didn’t want to seem like he was gawking over Emily.

“Well Em, shall we go? You look like you can use some beauty sleep.” Jay could not believe what a jerk he was being to her.

“Yeah, let’s go home.”

Then Jay could not believe how nonchalant she was. Probably use to it he thought. And just like that Matt is sweeping Emily out of his sight.

Emily turns around and says bye to Jay.

“Yes, thank you for making sure my Em was safe.” Matt says as they go through the door.

“Anytime.” By then they already are gone. “Anytime my beautiful girl.” He watches as they drive away.
