Prologue

The years following the Earth wall's erection were confusing, to say the least. The great good of earth Granite showed few the way through the wall, those few became ourgate minders. We praise Granite and offer him our love and he blessed us,giving us the fertile soil and the plentiful trees, even the beast that runs through the forest, he gave to us.

We the people toiled in the land basking in our god’s chanced care. Not long after our first harvest, the great earth god gathered his people.

“My children, it is with great sadness that I must leave you.” The God said.

“No Lord, please do not go away from us.” We said to him.

Great Granite shook his head in sorrow. “I must, you have been given the chance to go forward in this life without the continued meddling of a god. You must go forward now showing the world what it means to be my children.”

Then the great god left, throwing our Nation into despair. Only King Garion Stone took our god’s words to heart. He rallied the people bringing them together in the name of Granite. Soon more and more joined in with the King, under his steady guidance, we began to thrive.

Our kingdom grew encompassing all of Granite. The Jungles of the dryads to the west, into the deserts of the north, the mountains of the east, and the fields of the south. All became part of the alliance peacefully the people joining with the King.

Great King Stone reigned on his throne for more than forty years without time touching his features. The people believed him to be the last one blessed by the hand of Granite. After uniting the Nation and securing a line of succession, King Stone abdicated his throne to his son.

The good King addressed us, his people. “I have served you these many years hoping one day our great god would return to us, alas this has not been so. Now that my son is old enough and wise enough it is only right that he take on the responsibility of being King to this great Nation.”

We cried outagain. “No lord please do not leave us.”

The King shook his head. “There is a quest that I have chosen to take upon myself, it isone I must see accomplished. I will require only a hand's worth of volunteers.”

Hands were held up throughout the crowd.

The King cried at the outpouring of love from his people, and from them, he chose the five hunters but cried out to the people with joy. “We shall go in search of Granite, the great god of the earth. Tell him of his children’s growth and our wish for his return.”

We cried outin joy, many believed the King would succeed and our god would return to us once more. We watched our heroes go with hope in our hearts, days moved to weeks, and weeks moved to months. Over a year went by with no word from our heroes.

Then one dayin the early hours of Spring, the hero King returned.

“I have found the god asleep I am unable to wake him. I need to bring back more of the people to wake the god.”

We rejoiced following the hero King, However, the way back had become covered and the King could not get back to the place of our god’s slumber. We went back to our cities and lived on. Our King left again to find our god. He was never heard from again.

Some say there may be a time when the way to Great Granite opens and they will be able to rouse him from his slumber.
