"Absolutely brilliant story thus far. Addictively engrossing and full of suspense as the plot twists and turns. At first I thought it was going to be tricky to follow the two storylines with the past and present mysteriously unfolding as we read but was pleasantly surprised by the skills of the writer adequately balancing the slow unraveling of both yet enough vivid details and building of information to be able to follow both past and present storylines without being distracting or confusing for the reader. Such a creatively unique overall storyline and realistic portrayal of characters that I quickly became immersed in this book and couldn’t help binge reading. Shame it stops here as I’m extra eager to know what will happen next with a number of elements in the plot. Well Done! Will be keeping a close eye out for the completion of book 2. "
The perfect read
"Every once in a while, you come across a story that makes you wonder why more people aren't already talking about it. This is one of those books. From the very beginning, I was fascinated by Madame Moreau. There is something incredibly captivating about a thief who doesn't simply steal for money, who chooses her targets with purpose, and who leaves behind more questions than answers. Add Inspector Jonathan Clark, who has made catching her his personal mission, and suddenly you have this wonderful game of pursuit that becomes so much bigger and more dangerous than either of them could have anticipated. What I particularly loved is that this isn't just another story about a brilliant art thief being chased by a determined detective. There is history here, mystery, danger, beautiful European settings, and the growing realization that the stolen pieces are connected to something much larger. The further the story takes you into its secrets, the more you want to know. Who is really chasing whom? Why these particular objects? And what happens when finding the truth becomes more dangerous than leaving it buried? It has that wonderful feeling of stepping into another world for a while—into old collections, elegant rooms, forgotten histories, and secrets that have survived for centuries. I could picture so much of it while reading, and that atmosphere is one of the things that made the story so enjoyable for me. But above all, this is simply a beautiful book that deserves attention. It is the kind of story I would love to see sitting on an actual bookstore shelf one day, because it absolutely belongs there. I sincerely hope a traditional publisher discovers it and gives it the opportunity to reach the wider audience it deserves. Until then, I am very glad I found it here on Inkitt. A clever, atmospheric and beautifully intriguing story that deserves a place on every bookshelf. Definitely one to remember. "
