Prologue
Everyone always said there were three things you never touched.
A live hockey puck.
A man’s ego.
And your brother’s best friend.
Unfortunately for me, I had a habit of ignoring warnings.
Especially when that warning came in the form of Ethan Carter.
The first time I met him, I was sixteen years old and completely convinced he was the most annoying person alive.
He stole my fries.
He laughed at my music.
He called me “princess” because I wore a dress to my brother’s hockey game.
I hated him.
Or at least, that was what I told myself.
Because years later, standing in my kitchen at two in the morning, wearing his hoodie and pretending my heart wasn’t racing every time he looked at me, I realized something terrifying.
I had never hated Ethan Carter.
Not even close.
I had been fighting something that had been there all along.
Something forbidden.
Something impossible.
Something that could destroy my family.
Something that felt dangerously like love.
