Summary

Selene Vale has spent her entire life believing in fate—until the night it betrays her. As the daughter of the Night Moon Pack’s Beta, Selene always dreamed of the moment she would find her fated mate. But when that moment finally comes, it ends in heartbreak. Kieran Storm, the Alpha’s son—the one destined to love her above all others—chooses someone else, shattering not only Selene’s future, but everything she believed about the bond meant to tie them together forever. Refusing to let rejection define her, Selene makes a choice that no one expects: she will forge her own destiny, with or without fate on her side. To do that, she must survive the legendary Trials of the Five Packs—deadly challenges that have broken even the strongest warriors. From enduring unbearable pain to facing impossible sacrifices, from brutal combat to a labyrinth of living nightmares, each trial pushes Selene closer to her limits—and closer to becoming something far more powerful than she ever imagined. But as she fights to prove herself, she uncovers something far more dangerous than the trials themselves: whispers of an ancient prophecy, hidden truths binding the packs, and a growing darkness that threatens them all. And through it all, one problem refuses to stay in the past. Kieran is following her. Haunted by regret and bound by a connection that refuses to break, he is determined to win her back—even as his presence threatens to unravel everything Selene is fighting to become. The mate bond still lingers, dangerous and unrelenting, pulling at emotions she can’t afford to feel. As the trials grow deadlier and the truth behind them begins to surface, Selene must make an impossible choice: surrender to the bond that once destroyed her… or rise above it and become something stronger than fate itself. Because this time, her heart isn’t the only thing at stake. Her destiny is.

Prologue

The night I turn eighteen, the moon seems to draw me into her quiet embrace.

The entire Blood Moon Pack gathers beneath the vast, open sky, their forms illuminated by the golden blaze of a great bonfire at the center of the clearing. Shadows flicker across their faces as every eye settles on me, heavy with expectation. The air feels charged, alive with anticipation, as something ancient stirs beneath my skin.

I search the crowd until I find my mother. Her hands are clasped at her chest, her expression a fragile mix of pride and worry. My father stands beside her, broad and immovable, his arms crossed, though the tightness in his jaw betrays him. Dax, my brother—the one who has never once doubted me—offers a knowing smirk, his golden eyes bright with encouragement.

This is the moment.

I draw a steady breath and press my bare feet into the cool earth. The scents of wildflowers, damp moss, and fire smoke wrap around me, anchoring me as the restless energy building inside my body begins to crest. It hums through my bones, a call older than memory itself.

I close my eyes.

Heat surges through me without warning, racing through my veins like wildfire. My muscles seize, and a sharp, relentless pain tears down my spine, dragging a strained cry from my throat. My bones splinter and twist, reshaping under an unbearable force. The world fades away—the murmur of the pack, the wind, the trees—until nothing exists but the searing agony.

And beneath it, something deeper stirs.

Something primal, awakening.

This is not merely breaking; it is a rebirth. My vision blurs, dims, and then sharpens with startling clarity. When the final wave of magic crashes through me, I am no longer standing on two legs.

Gasps ripple through the clearing as I struggle to rise on unsteady paws, my body trembling under the force of the transformation. I blink, adjusting to this new perspective, and find my reflection staring back at me in the eyes of my pack.

I am small.

Too small.

Where others emerge strong and imposing, their wolf forms reflecting the power they hold, mine is slight and delicate. My fur is a pale auburn, almost foxlike, and marked by a striking crescent of pure white across my chest. The murmurs deepen as they take me in, uncertainty spreading through the crowd.

Doubt coils low in my stomach, cold and unwelcome, but before it can take hold, my wolf surges forward with fierce insistence.

Run.

The command is absolute, and I obey.

The moment my paws strike the forest floor, everything shifts. The world expands around me, vivid and alive. The wind rushes past, carrying the scents of pine and damp earth, of distant life and familiar packmates. My body moves with a fluid certainty I have never known, each stride effortless as the ground blurs beneath me.

Branches crack, leaves whisper, and my heart beats in a steady, powerful rhythm.

For the first time in my life, I feel free.

When I return, my body aches, but my spirit feels impossibly light. I shift back, trembling, and reach for the dress my mother left tucked inside a hollow tree. The soft fabric slips over my skin, sheltering me from the cool night as I step once more into the firelit clearing.

The pack greets me with cheers and rising howls, their voices lifting into the night in celebration.

But something changes.

The shift is subtle at first, like a whisper passing through still air. The cheers falter, smiles fade, and unease settles heavily over the clearing. My father’s expression hardens, my mother’s lips press thin, and a quiet murmur begins to move through the crowd.

Then I hear it—footsteps approaching through the trees, steady and unmistakable, carrying the scent of pine and fresh rain.

My breath catches, and my heart begins to pound as I turn toward the darkness, hope rising so fiercely it nearly overwhelms me.

He’s here.

Kieran.

He steps into the glow of the firelight, taller and stronger than I remember. The boy I knew has vanished, replaced by a man whose presence commands attention without effort. His sleeves are rolled, revealing the strength in his arms, his dark hair tousled, his green eyes catching the moonlight.

And then it happens.

The force strikes me all at once—sudden, overwhelming, undeniable. It crashes through my chest, stealing the air from my lungs as my thoughts scatter.

The mate bond.

It locks into place with the power of a storm, igniting something deep within my soul. My wolf stills, then surges forward in recognition.

Mine.

I have waited my entire life for this.

For a single heartbeat, I see it reflected in his eyes—the same realization, the same pull. It fits, it makes sense. We have always been bound in some way, childhood friendship now revealed as something far deeper.

And then she steps out from behind him.

The world stills.

She is beautiful in a way that feels almost unreal, her golden hair falling in soft waves, her features delicate and luminous. But it is not her beauty that steals the breath from my lungs.

It is the way her hand fits into his.

And the undeniable curve of her stomach, round and full, carrying his child.

The bond within me twists, something pure turned suddenly jagged and unbearable. My knees give before I can stop them, striking the ground as the world tilts.

No.

This cannot be real.

Whispers swell around me—shock, confusion, disbelief—but they fade beneath the roar in my ears. My father’s gaze darkens with fury, my mother’s with grief, and Kieran’s hand tightens around the she-wolf at his side.

He begins to speak, but the sound never reaches me.

This was meant to be ours—this moment, this bond. Instead, he chose another before he ever knew the truth, and now that choice stands before me, undeniable.

Something inside me fractures.

My wolf whimpers, tugging toward him, urging me to demand answers, to fight for what is ours. But I refuse to move.

Slowly, I rise, my legs unsteady yet unyielding. I lift my chin and meet his gaze, forcing strength into every inch of myself. My hands curl into fists as I hold back the tears threatening to fall.

I will not break here.

Not for him.

Kieran has made his choice.

Now, I will make mine.
