Summary

THE SATURN PRIESTESS The Veil Engine Chronicles Book One Earth did not end with one explosion. It ended in installments—heat, hunger, floods, blackouts, water wars, and “temporary” laws that turned fear into a business model. By 2039, the Triune Authority rules what remains: the Atlantean Union’s black-glass surveillance cities, the Solari Collective’s sacred-tech solar empire, and the Pacific Shogunate’s neon ocean fortresses. Nysera Vael was built for their world. An Omega-cleared Neural Resonance Architect, she helped maintain the Harmonic Grid—the system that promises peace while quietly regulating memory, emotion, desire, and obedience. Then, at 4:44 a.m., every screen on Earth goes black. A version of Nysera appears and tells the world: “Reality was never freedom. It was containment.” Now she is hunted as a traitor, pursued through drowned cities and glittering palaces, and forced to confront a truth with teeth: the Veil is a machine—and her blood may be able to break it. Between a Saturnian prince with secrets, an ex-husband who still feels like home, a bodyguard secretly planning their escape, and a crown heir engineered to serve the enemy, Nysera must uncover what happened to her missing daughter before the Authority turns every child like her into a key. She was made to serve the system. She chose to destroy it.

Prologue The Long Fall

PROLOGUE

THE LONG FALL

Earth did not end with one explosion.

That would have been merciful.

It ended in installments.

First came the heat—cities cooking beneath orange skies while politicians stood in air-conditioned rooms explaining that everything was still under control. Then came the hunger. The floods. The droughts. The water wars. The cyberattacks. The little “temporary” emergency laws that became permanent once enough people were scared to clap for them.

By the time humanity realized survival had become a subscription service, it was too late.

Food required access.

Water required compliance.

Medicine required a biometric scan.

And freedom? Freedom became that thing rich people discussed over expensive drinks while poor people stood in ration lines pretending they were grateful to still be breathing.

The old nations did not collapse because they were weak.

They collapsed because nobody could agree whether the enemy was the weather, the machines, the corporations, the governments, or the people hoarding bottled water like they were preparing for the apocalypse in a damn mansion.

Turns out, it was all of them.

The first food systems failed in 2027. Heat domes roasted North America. Europe lost growing seasons to drought and flood. Rivers in Africa, India, and the Middle East shrank into mud and memory. By 2029, water had become more valuable than oil, gold, or human decency.

Then came the Blackout Cascade.

Twenty-one days without reliable electricity, communications, hospitals, banking, public transit, clean water, or food distribution.

That was when the world learned smart cities were only smart until someone with enough money, malice, or computer skills told them to become stupid.

The governments offered protection.

The corporations offered infrastructure.

The people accepted surveillance because their children were hungry.

And the cages came with excellent branding.

By 2031, the Cascadia rupture drowned much of the western coast. Los Angeles became a drowned ruin—flooded towers, submerged rail lines, and canal districts where smugglers sold old-world artifacts beside forged ration chips. Oregon City survived inland, rebuilt into a fortified Atlantean refuge.

That same year, the Mississippi basin ruptured and flooded into what survivors now call the Great Lake.

Beautiful from above.

A graveyard from every other angle.

Florida followed. Not all at once. Slowly. Cruelly. Hurricanes, storm surges, saltwater intrusion, and collapsing infrastructure consumed most of the peninsula until only the Keys and the Panhandle remained worth fighting over.

Then humanity did what humanity always does when resources run out.

It went to war and called it policy.

The Red Line Wars turned food, water, migration, and energy into excuses for invasion. The Sun Wars turned Africa, the Middle East, India, and parts of Asia into a battlefield for solar power, desalination, and sacred technologies. The Pacific Severance turned the ocean into a graveyard of civilian ships, autonomous war fleets, pirate nations, and drowning cities.

By 2039, the world had been divided into three powers.

Not because they saved civilization.

Because they were the last ones powerful enough to own what remained of it.

The Atlantean Union promised order.

The Solari Collective promised life.

The Pacific Shogunate promised discipline.

All three promised peace.

All three lied beautifully.

And beneath their polished speeches, their neon temples, their black-glass cities, their solar palaces, and their ocean fortresses, something older was waking.

The Veil was not a myth.

It was a machine.

And machines always remember who built them.

THE CATASTROPHES OF THE LONG FALL

2027 — The First Broken Harvest

Estimated dead: 116 million

Heat domes, wildfire, drought, flood, crop disease, and broken global food routes turn food into currency. This is when the world stops saying “climate crisis” and starts calling it The Hunger Years.

2028–2029 — The Three-Year Thirst

Estimated dead: 278 million

The Colorado, Euphrates, Indus, and major African river systems collapse. Cities lock water behind citizenship ratings, work credits, and compliance scores. Warlords rise—not with tanks, but with water keys.

2030 — The Blackout Cascade

Estimated dead: 284 million

A worldwide cyberattack disables power, hospitals, water systems, banking, drones, transit, and emergency networks. The Atlantean Union begins building its biometric identity architecture during the panic.

2031 — The Cascadia Drop

Estimated dead: 94 million

The Cascadia fault ruptures. Coastal Oregon fractures into flooded regions and militarized relief zones. Los Angeles becomes a submerged city of elevated towers, black-water canals, and contraband markets.

2031 — The Mississippi Reversal

Estimated dead: 65 million

The New Madrid fault ruptures. The Mississippi basin floods into the Great Lake, a massive inland water zone now used for trade, resistance routes, smuggling, and secret sanctuaries.

2032 — The Florida Sundering

Estimated dead: 41 million

Hurricanes and sea rise drown most of Florida. The Panhandle and Keys survive under brutal military protection and high-surveillance port law.

2032–2034 — The Red Line Wars

Estimated dead: 583 million

North America and Europe militarize borders. Private armies defend food vaults. Corporations buy cities. Refugees become a political resource. The Atlantean Union rises by promising order through surveillance.

2034–2035 — The Sun Wars

Estimated dead: 646 million

Solar fields, desalination plants, water corridors, and energy cities become battlefields. Africa, the Middle East, India, and parts of Asia form the Solari Collective to prevent complete collapse.

2035 — The Pacific Severance

Estimated dead: 337 million

Ring-of-Fire disasters, pirate fleets, autonomous warships, and broken sea routes force Pacific territories into a unified military-technological empire: the Pacific Shogunate.

2035–2036 — The Glass Winter

Estimated dead: 731 million

Wildfire smoke, sabotage, contamination, and failed weather-control systems darken the atmosphere. Crops die. Refugee zones freeze. Enclosed climate cities become the new luxury.

2036 — Axiom Island

Estimated dead: 96 million

The largest AI data complex on Earth is built in the Pacific from linked artificial islands, military platforms, and reclaimed rigs. It controls records, weather intelligence, medical files, food routes, military commands—and enough secrets to start ten new wars.

2036–2037 — The Quiet Fever

Estimated dead: 466 million

Diseases tear through camps, flooded cities, and military corridors. Governments begin cellular monitoring, mandatory health scans, and sealed quarantine zones.

2037–2039 — The Last Border Wars

Estimated dead: 318 million

The last independent nations are invaded, purchased, starved, or forced into a treaty. Borders vanish. Supply lines become law.

2039 — The Triumph of the Triune Authority

Estimated dead: 263 million

The Atlantean Union, Solari Collective, and Pacific Shogunate formalize their global agreement.

Over 4.4 billion people are dead, missing, erased, or never counted at all.

The official number is lower.

Because empires love a clean spreadsheet.

THE THREE SECTORS OF EARTH

1. THE ATLANTEAN UNION

Territory: Former North America, parts of Europe, and Atlantic reconstruction zones. Capital: Neo Atlantica. Look: Black-glass towers, floating highways, luxury propaganda, biometric access, climate domes, drones, perfect smiles with terrible intentions.

The Atlantean Union believes people cannot be trusted with freedom.

So it engineers obedience and calls it peace.

Its upper classes live in reflective sky districts, surrounded by AI servants, neural entertainment, weather-controlled terraces, and genetic privilege. Beneath them are the monitored citizens, the worker zones, the reconstruction districts, the flooded cities, and the people the system refuses to count.

Key map locations

Neo Atlantica: Council seat, Harmonic Grid headquarters, Veil Engine research center.

Oregon City: Fortified inland refuge after the Cascadia disaster.

Drowned Los Angeles: Submerged ruins, elevated towers, canal smugglers, black-market resistance routes.

The Great Lake: Former Mississippi basin; resistance crossing, illegal trade artery, hidden child sanctuaries.

The Keys and Panhandle: Militarized ports, prison colonies, elite storm retreats.

Core belief:“We do not ask for loyalty. We engineer it.”

2. THE SOLARI COLLECTIVE

Territory: Africa, the Middle East, India, and parts of Asia. Capital: Solaris Prime. Look: Gold desert citadels, solar temples, vertical jungles, water sanctuaries, sacred technology, old-world lineage mixed with future science.

The Solari Collective was born from necessity, not innocence.

It controls the world’s most important solar grids, desalination networks, healing academies, frequency sciences, and ancient knowledge vaults. It speaks of balance, life, ancestry, and sovereignty—but it has its own bloodlines, rival councils, rebels, priest-engineers, and secrets buried beneath the sun.

This is where Ren wants to take Nysera.

Not because it is perfect.

Because it is one of the last places where a person can still disappear without asking a machine for permission.

Key map locations

Solaris Prime: Political and energy capital.

Heliopolis: Spiritual-tech center and Solar Council headquarters.

Kushan Vertex: Jungle-city research hub.

Qafila Basin: Desert trade crossroads and resistance corridor.

Indus Harmony: Education and resonance-science capital.

Pyrra Nexus: Frequency research city with dangerous old archives.

Core belief: “The sun does not bow to kings.”

3. THE PACIFIC SHOGUNATE

Territory: Japan, Pacific territories, parts of Oceania, and fortified ocean routes. Capital: Shogun’s Pier. Look: Neon rain cities, AI shrines, black samurai armor, ocean fortresses, cybernetic warriors, temples built into steel towers.

The Pacific Shogunate was forged when the ocean became a battlefield.

It survives through precision, hierarchy, sacrifice, discipline, and the belief that chaos is a luxury the dying cannot afford. It is beautiful, deadly, ritualized, and terrifyingly organized.

This is Ren’s homeland.

And it is the place that trained him to protect Nysera, monitor Nysera, contain Nysera—and eventually betray an entire empire for Nysera.

Key map locations

Shogun’s Pier: Military-political capital.

Neo Edo: Cultural and technological heart.

Sentsu Harbor: Naval shipyard complex and trade guardian.

AI Shrine-7: Sacred algorithm temple where data monks maintain ancient code.

Kaijin Hold: Cybernetic research fortress.

Ocean Fortress: Mobile sea-citadel guarding outer Pacific routes.

Axiom Island: The largest AI data center in the world, technically neutral and realistically everybody’s problem.

Core belief: “Honor above all. Discipline. Precision. We never fall.”
